This position will be responsible for serving the expanding recreational sports program and provides expected programming that serves the mission of the Department, Division and University.
Oversight of all sport clubs. Assist club leaders and coaches with planning, scheduling and administering all club events. Oversee budget allocations, fundraising, and policy/procedure adherence. Coordinate all club sport team travel arrangements as outlined in student organization travel policies. Create and implement the club sports leadership training. Maintain records of all sport clubs activities, discipline, and participation. Schedule monthly Sport Club Council meetings, work with student leaders to develop policies/procedures for sport club program. Develop New Officers’ Orientation program to work with incoming freshman/sophomore leaders. Schedule, assist in planning and execution of all sport club home events
Plan, organize, develop and evaluate a comprehensive intramural program. Schedule all intramural contests and coordinate staffing. Determine policy and procedures regarding eligibility, scheduling and registration. Coordinate publicity and promotion. Purchase all intramural equipment and maintain inventory. Coordinate the scheduling of all intramural facilities. Develop all policies, procedures and sport specific rules related to intramural sports. Maintain records of all league standings, sportsmanship and participation rates for intramural sports. Oversee the discipline of all participants including addressing sportsmanship, ejections and game protest issues.
Recruit, hire, train and evaluate student officials, Intramural Supervisors, and Sport Club Supervisors. Direct supervision of the Competitive Sports Graduate Assistant. Perform ongoing job training, student development, and performance evaluation.
Serve as primary risk manager for areas of oversight. Develop, maintain, and enforce standards of safety and risk management plans for all club sport teams and intramural sports programs and facilities. Ensure safety of participants in all areas of oversight and programs by monitoring environmental conditions.
Work with campus partners (Student Activities, University Center, Student Engagement & Success, etc.) to develop campus wide relationships and initiatives, as well as policies and procedures. Serve on committees as assigned.
Work alongside Youth Programs Coordinator to assist with Islander Rec Camp during Summer months
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required.
One (1) year progressively responsible experience developing and implementing recreational sports programs
One year full-time or 2 years part-time/graduate assistant-ship for equivalent.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills to be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators and community agencies.
Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating small to large scale university events.
Demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing leadership training for student leaders.
Ability to understand and interpret policies, rules, and regulations.
Capacity to multitask complex assignments in a fast paced environment and to use technology to accomplish responsibilities.
Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and conflict management skills.
Willingness to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Certification in American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid.
Masters in Recreational Sports/Student Affairs/related areas preferred.
Experience supervising student staff.
Experience coordinating Intramurals/Sports Club events.
