Primary Purpose of the Position
The Assistant Director of Wellness reports to the Associate Director of Wellness and Fitness Programs. The primary purpose of this job is to coordinate and lead programs and opportunities which promote well-being across campus and the community by developing and nurturing relationships. Education topics include but are not limited to: mental health & stress management, sexual health & healthy relationships, alcohol & other drugs, nutrition & body image, movement & exercise, and overall well-being. In collaboration with the Associate Director and the Sr. Assistant Director, the Assistant Director of Wellness will coordinate the collaborative university well-being coaching program in addition to training, recruiting, and evaluation of well-being coaches. The Assistant Director of Wellness will directly supervise one (1) full-time wellness coordinator and indirectly supervise two (2) wellness graduate assistants and multiple well-being attendants and ambassadors.
Specific duties of the position are as follows:
Work collaboratively with Campus Recreation & Wellness team members and assist in the delivery of a comprehensive well-being initiative for the university community.
Supervise a variety of leadership opportunities for CRW student staff involved with the education, administration and promotion of departmental well-being programs.
Assist in the fiscal management of the well-being program area including budget for equipment, program supplies, and personnel. Responsible for the recommendation and purchase of well-being program materials and ongoing programs such as Munchie Monday, Therapeutic Thursday and Fresh Food Friday in addition to on-demand programs for university and community partners.
Assist with the Employee Well-Being Institute coordinated by the Sr. Assistant Director of Wellness & Fitness. Facilitate additional ECU full-time and student employee well-being programs.
Assist in the creation, development, administration, implementation, and evaluation a well-being coaching program for the campus community.
Assist with the strategic and development plans for the well-being areas including reports and assessments.
Develop and nurture relationships with campus and community stakeholders such as partners, members and guests.
Serve as an active member on the University Well-Being Collaborative
Teach one academic class per semester for the College of Health and Human Performance or related college.
Pursue and assist with grant writing/grant funding opportunities and administer as needed.
Represent the ECU campus community on local and regional health related committees/organizations.
Continue professional development through membership in professional organizations, attending and presenting at conferences and workshops, professional reading, and staying current with trends and issues pertinent to well-being. Contributes to scholarly articles, blogs, and publications. Serves on departmental, divisional, and/or University committees as agreed upon with the Associate Director and the Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness.
Other duties as assigned
A Master’s degree in Health or Wellness related fields, Health and Fitness, Student Personnel Administration or related experiences.
Two years of experience with wellness program planning and implementation.
Knowledge of current wellness and learning theories, methods, strategies and tactics.
Knowledge of emergency management standards and duties of care for wellness and fitness and educational facilities.
Demonstrated ability to supervise student staff.
Demonstrated experience with fiscal management of a comprehensive program.
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of a holistic well-being education concept for the University and its surrounding communities.
Exceptional leadership and customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability for clear, cogent written and verbal communication. He/she must communicate effectively with a variety of publics.
Red Cross, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Three to five years of experience with wellness program planning and implementation. Experience with purchasing and procurement.
Nationally certified Health Coach Certification (ACE or equivalent), NBC-HWC preferred.
