Job Purpose: Under general supervision, the sport programs intern assists in the management of the intramural and sport club programs. This position will focus on administrative operations, program scheduling, and student employee development for sport programs. This position will work alongside UofSC students to offer student engagement opportunities that provide meaningful beyond the classroom experiences.
Provide leadership training and development to designated students & student groups. Maintain records of employees’ trainings & certifications.
Oversee sport program office operation. Serve as primary contact person for the sport club travel process.
Design & facilitate training sessions with an emphasis on risk management, customer service, critical thinking, and facility stewardship.
Assist in administering the intramural and sport club program based on current trends to provide innovative recreational sports opportunities that meet the needs of the Carolina community.
Counsel, mentor, and guide sport club officers and participants. Support in advising the sport club executive board.
Oversee inventory management with an emphasis on stewardship
Partner & collaborate with key campus offices to ensure programs, services & activities support an inclusive Student Life environment. This includes the planning and development of special events.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with experience in intramural sport or sport clubs.
Position Specific Qualifications: Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. This position requires a variable work schedule. Evening & weekend hours will be required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Experience in student supervision, sport club advisement, and recreational programming. Should possess the ability to officiate a wide variety of sports and conduct officials’ trainings. Relevant experience working in sport programs is preferred. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain prior to start date. Flexibility and availability to work evenings, weekends and holiday and to attend on and off campus events and programs.
Describe the guidelines and supervision an employee receives to do this job, including the employee’s independence and discretion: The sport programs intern will report to the coordinator of sport programs. The sport programs intern will meet with their supervisor weekly for updates. Must be able to maintain a high degree of discretion and independence. Must be flexible and adaptable to trends. Must be self-motivated and move tasks forward without access to ongoing feedback making autonomous risk management decisions at activity sites.
Period of Appointment: July 6, 2020– May 28th, 2021. Separate arrangements may be made on an individual basis.

Bachelors degree; experience in a university intramural sports and/or sport clubs program, prior officiating experience & CPR/SFA/AED certifications are strongly preferred. Those seeking a career in recreation will receive preference.
Additional Salary Information: Paid as an hourly wage (~$13/hr) with total approximating $14,000 over the 10.5 month period. The appointee will be paid twice monthly and expected to work an average of 29.5 hours a week (with the exception of some university holidays & breaks.)
