The Recreational Sports Facility and Special Events Coordinator will provide night and weekend professional staff coverage to the Student Recreation Center, facilities, and events. The Coordinator will manage facility emergencies and will support the administration of games and events in recreational sports spaces. The presence of a full time professional throughout nights and weekends will support increased oversight and risk management throughout the department. Recreational Sports hosts a wide variety of events in facilities throughout the year and continues to set attendance records for program participation, event attendance, and facility utilization. Additionally, this role will support Recreational Sports staff in properly managing the two new recreation facilities that are coming online in the fall of 2020.
This person will coordinate the marketing efforts of the Recreational Sports department. With the growth of Recreational Sports programming, facilities and events, it is imperative to properly market and reach our student body and the greater campus community. The individual in this position will have the skills to dynamically market and promote the facilities, programs, and services of the Recreational Sports department.
Oversee night and weekend operations of Rec Sports facilities, programs and events. These duties may include providing facility management for events that include set up, implementation, tear down, and supervision of event staff. The Coordinator will act as the administrator on duty for varsity athletic, club sport, and intramural competitions. Provide leadership to the campus community with an emphasis on customer service and risk management. Emphasis on patron safety, inclusiveness, and collaboration with other departments. Provide students with meaningful, beyond the classroom, experiences.
Coordinate with a large variety of student and professional staff members from numerous departments on campus as well as clients and guests from off campus.
Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan for Recreational Sports including but not limited to: website design, digital displays, print media, social media, and radio commercials content. This position will be the main internal marketing contact for Recreational Sports.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate and provide leadership to student employees.
Other duties as assigned, on occasion, this position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold Mines organizational values.
Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following: Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Event Management, Marketing, or a related field
Previous experience working in higher education
Previous experience managing and coordinating large-scale special events
Professional experience working on a college campus in Student Affairs, Athletics, or Professional experience in Marketing and Special Events.
Qualified candidates will possess a servant leadership philosophy as well as strong customer service skills and experience.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and flexible schedule.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate exceptional communication, relationship management and interpersonal skills
Current CPR/ First Aid/ AED certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
Previous experience developing and implementing a creative marketing plan
Progressive experience supervising facilities, schedules, staff, programs and events within a university athletics and rec. sports department
Active NIRSA Member preferably with an RCRSP certification
Experience developing and implementing a creative marketing plan on a university campus using numerous mediums. In addition to graphic design skills.
Marketing experience and the ability to use various computer programs including: Canva, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop and Illustrator, Life Fitness and Precor screen managers, Fusion, Sidearm (website management), Neptune radio, Engage Screen Management, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
Previous experience with SubItUp and EMS Scheduling Software
Red Cross CPR/ First Aid/AED Instructor certified through the American Red Cross
Experience with crowd management
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
Experience managing student employees
Experience managing a budget
Risk management experience and an understanding of how to implement an emergency action plan
Game administration experience. Experience administering and overseeing various varsity, club and intramural competitions
