Florida State University is seeking a dynamic, innovative and student development-centered individual for the position of Fitness Coordinator.
The successful candidate will provide shared leadership for a comprehensive university-wide recreational program designed for more than 50,000 students, faculty, and staff, and will assist with cultivating and delivering the departmental brand to the entire community. They will also cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning. Serves as the Coordinator for fitness programming. Coordinates, promotes, supervises, and evaluates a comprehensive group fitness program for the FSU community. Assesses current activities and researches industry trends to compile a diverse array of offerings to best meet patron needs. Oversees class schedule, monitors and maintains in-person and online registration processes, and responds to participant inquiries. Maintains scheduling software system with schedule each semester and changes, as needed.
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates student staff members as group fitness instructors, small group training instructors, and educational outreach presenters. Provides leadership for student director positions. Sets learning outcomes and provides continuing education for staff to enhance skills and obtain / maintain appropriate certifications through workshops, instructional seminars, and conference attendance. Develop and teach educational course to fitness employees based on accredited curriculum.
Designs educational workshops and programs that provide participants with the opportunity to expand their knowledge, comfort level, and ability in fitness-related endeavors. Serves as a strong partner for fitness and wellness across campus. Collaborates with other University departments and the community.
Assists in the coordination of revenue-generating fitness programs, small group training, and customized group fitness programs.
Provides direction for equipment replacement, equipment purchasing, and long range planning. Acts as risk manager for group fitness programs and facilities. Researches liability issues and implements updates to policies and procedures to maintain appropriate standard of care. Responsible for inventory control, purchasing, invoicing, ordering, and receiving of general equipment and supplies. Determines program fiscal needs and prepares budget recommendations.
Regularly reports assessment and statistical data pertaining to operations, participation, and staff development.
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, or related field and two years of experience in recreation or fitness setting.
Current certification through ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA or other nationally recognized agency.
Certification or ability to become certified within 6 months in Madd Dogg Spinning.
Certification or ability to become certified within 6 months in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED.
Master's Degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, or related field.
