ROLE of the POSITION
The Program Coordinator is responsible for offering a wide variety of team, individual, and self-monitored sports, as well as special events each semester. Their primary role is to ensure that our students can engage in safe sporting events that meet their interests, are during their preferred times, and promote sportsmanship. Operational processes for intramural sports include:
Scheduling and facilitating captain meetings for each sport
Promoting sportsmanship and gaining buy-in from the participants in our Rebel Cup program
Handling the logistics of space reservations at multiple venues
Assisting with marketing and the promotion of the intramural sports programs
Maintaining statistics and records of all leagues standings, participation rates, assessment data, and website updates
Mediating conflicts, disagreements, and unsportsmanlike behaviors in a professional manner
Developing policies and procedures for sport-specific game rules and maintaining and updating supplemental documents
Maintaining equipment inventory, maintenance, and proper storage; performs regular inspections and checks to ensure equipment is in proper working order
Overseeing an assigned budget and monitoring expenses
Responding to and reporting all risk management, conduct, and well-being concerns
Reviewing our sports programs, operational procedures, and participation demographics to ensure risk mitigation and inclusivity
Continuing to stay current with new trends, college sports, esports, games, and other developments in the field
Contributing to departmental strategic planning and the compiling of annual reports
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position requires a flexible work schedule to ensure coverage of gameplay, which can include either tournaments or regularly scheduled game meets. The person selected for this position must be able to work evenings and weekends. A large part of the Program Coordinator’s role is the focus on intentional student development. Development and training of student employees include:
Recruitment, selection, and training of sports officials and program assistants
Implements sport-specific training that includes on-court/field sessions, classroom sessions, in-service meetings, workshops, extramural tournaments, conference attendance, and video breakdowns
Provides leadership for student staff by providing continuing education to enhance skills that can be used in the classroom and are transferable to their desired career
Provides game-site feedback throughout the week to officials and program assistants; uses this an opportunity to give real scenarios on ways to improve game management, call selection, participation satisfaction, and how to be successful employees
Implements end of the semester evaluations that includes strengths, challenges, and a developmental plan for the upcoming semester
Facilitates weekly supervisor meetings and provides opportunities for supervisors to train their peers
Builds supervisory relationships; sets expectations and holds staff accountable yet is able to provide recognition when it is due
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL: Understand the importance of health and wellness and how to communicate its importance to our students, faculty, and staff. This candidate will be able to assess our students and successfully market and launch programs based on survey results. Lastly, a successful candidate will prepare our students to thrive personally and professionally and to be lifelong independent learners and responsible citizens who embrace diversity, support the common good, and contribute meaningfully to the changing world in which they live and work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 1-year post bachelor’s experience or 9 months of graduate assistantship experience within recreational or collegiate athletic programming required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Sports officiating experiences. Experience with outcomes assessment and analysis. Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within 60 days of employment. All successful candidates will have the ability to assess student needs, value a high degree of student contact, interact effectively with a diverse population, have excellent interpersonal skills, communicate well in verbal and written form, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. The position is contingent upon funding.
