The Department of Campus Recreation at East Tennessee State University is seeking three (3) graduate assistants for the following areas: Facility Operations, Sport Clubs, and Outdoor Adventure. The goal of our graduate assistantship program is to foster the development of up-and-coming recreational professionals by immersing them in a hands-on recreational facility. Graduate Assistants will gain knowledge in their primary program area, as well as student employee management and development, leadership theory, and risk management.

Bachelor’s Degree and acceptance into an ETSU Graduate Program; One (1) year of experience working in collegiate recreation department, recreational program or related; Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain during first 15 days of employment. Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Payment & Compensation
Tuition waiver (eligible for both in-state/out of state students); Minimum Stipend of $7,800 for academic year; Funding for professional development including NIRSA sponsored state, regional, and national events and conferences; Opportunity for hourly summer employment; Department will provide funding for American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification.
All Graduate Assistant positions are an academic year appointment that are dependent on successful evaluation for renewal for second year.
Reporting to the Coordinator of Operations and Aquatics, the Facility Operations Graduate Assistant will assist in the overall operations and facility management of the Center for Physical Activity.
Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and supervision of operations staff members that serve as weight room attendants, equipment desk attendants, facility supervisors and building managers
Create and maintain monthly staff schedules using online scheduling software to ensure entire facility has coverage, including special event programming (staffing, setup, breakdown) and assume responsibility for filling in when necessary
Assist in leading of staff meetings and trainings for all operations staff
Assists in inputting maintenance work orders and communicating with University facilities regarding status of projects
Assists in minor fitness equipment maintenance and coordinates equipment maintenance repair with contracted technician and student maintenance team
Ensures equipment inventory is up-to-date in Recreational Management Software and assists coordinator in surplus and replenishing daily use equipment as needed
Contributes to the development and implementation of all emergency action plan procedures and is responsible for daily and weekly facility walk-throughs and inspections
Completes monthly, semester, and annual reports on facility usage
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventure, the Outdoor Adventure Graduate Assistant will assist with the development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of Outdoor Adventure programs and assisting in special events and activities.
Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of outdoor staff including climbing wall Instructors, challenge course facilitators, trip leaders, equipment room, outdoor desk and bike shop staff.
Manage rental, bicycle and climbing wall equipment and facilities (marketing, display, demo, maintenance, cleaning and repair, etc.)
Assist with maintenance and update social media, program boards, and website information within departmental and University standards and assist with creation of print publications to promote Outdoor Adventure events
Assist with maintaining point of sale system, Fusion. (Bike and equipment inventory, overdue equipment follow-up, program registration portal, financial tracking and reporting).
Assist with challenge course program delivery and trip preparation and clean up.
Contribute to the development and implementation of all emergency action plan
Collaborate with campus partners to schedule and setup special events and reservations
Assist with semester and monthly in-service trainings
Assist in monitoring program spending and expenses
One (1) year of experience as an intramural, competitive sports, or sport club staff member
Experience as a sport club member/officer
