Manage and oversee a comprehensive Competitive Sports (Intramural and Club Sports) program, to include developing policies and procedures by maintaining a good understanding and working knowledge of industry best practices through professional development opportunities including regional and national conferences, workshops, clinics, and site-visits; answering inquiries made by program participants via phone, email and/or in-person interaction; providing oversight of the assigned area during high volume participation times (including nights and weekends).
Oversee the scheduling of recreational activities that include practices and competition schedules of both Intramural and Club Sports teams by establishing a new and innovative team and individual sports offerings and developing and implementing mini-tournaments and one-day competitions designed to promote inclusion within Intramural Sports.
Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of short and long-range plans for the Competitive Sports (Intramural and Club Sports) program by implementing a strategic planning process as it relates to staffing, facilities, equipment, programming, staff development, special events, clinics, seminars, and marketing ensuring consistency with the mission of the university and goals of the Division of Student Affairs.
Develop risk management and emergency action plans and policies by working collaboratively with campus partners to review all incidents that require university involvement.
Ensure that policies and procedures are followed by creating and maintaining program operation manuals associated with student employment, Competitive Sports (Intramural and Club Sports) program, and developing training seminars to disseminate information, educate staff and ensure club teams comply with departmental procedures and university policies.
Provide training for all student and professional staff by meeting regularly with professional staff to develop strategic direction, plan a calendar of offerings, organize club sport competition/practice schedules, determine hiring objectives and organize general program tasks while providing innovative and positive leadership to all participants and staff involved with Competitive Sports.
Work with other units on campus to provide development opportunities for Campus Recreation full-time staff and student employees.
Participate in the development and administration of the departmental budget by conducting an inventory of equipment each semester and making recommendations for equipment purchases; overseeing Club Sports budget allocation process; tracking and overseeing payroll for student employees.
Identify development opportunities for Campus Recreation student leaders by overseeing recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and mentoring of student staff in each component of the Competitive Sports program area; developing staff training classes and seminars to teach and enhance competency skills for employees, with an emphasis on customer service and cleanliness of facilities.
Full supervisory responsibility for other employees, including two Competitive Sports Coordinators, oversight of contracted Athletic Training personnel, and numerous student employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion, or other employment decisions.
