Oklahoma State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Coordinator Facility Operations & Aquatics. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to create world-class recreation programs, services and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Facility Operations.
The candidate will provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operations of Oklahoma State University Department of Wellness facilities to include all indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities with an emphasis on providing a safe, well-maintained and proficiently staffed environment. This position will provide oversight, instruction and development of students and manage instructional aquatic programs, risk management, schedules, event management, and services. This position will provide supervision to include hiring, training, discipline, and evaluation of the positions of Facility Supervisors, indirect supervision of the following positions: Customer Service Attendants, Lifeguard, Head lifeguard, and Learn to Swim instructors. This position will oversee the Department of Wellness facility operations including paid reservations, customer service, membership services to include equipment checkout, locker rental, and special events.
Specific responsibilities include:
Oversee Department of Wellness paid facility rental and reservation requests for on and off campus groups. Coordinate rental information, set up needs, and space allocations based on established usage priorities. Establish facility use agreements. Oversee the set-up, access, and operation of special events.
Oversee guest services including equipment checkout and stocking equipment inventory, towel checkout, daily use lockers, all point of sale transactions, and locker rentals including locker cleanout at the conclusion of each semester.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate facility operations staff to include, Customer Service Assistants, Membership Services Associates, and Facility Supervisors as well as aquatic facility staff to include Lifeguards, Learn-to-Swim Instructors, and Head Life Guards.
Provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operation of Oklahoma State University Department of Wellness aquatic facilities. The Colvin pool includes an outdoor leisure pool with a lazy river, and three lanes for lap swimming, a 6 lane indoor pool 25-yard pool and dive well. The aquatic center is part of the Colvin Recreation Center, which is an approximately 245,000 sq. ft. recreation and fitness facility.
Backup operator of both indoor and outdoor pools including responsibility for the mechanical and physical operations of the pools.
Oversee the Learn to Swim program.
Oversee and track the CPR/AED/First Aid certifications for Departmental staff.
Ensure all aquatic facilities operate within required risk management procedures and oversee the implementation of standardized safety practices. Oversee compliance with Oklahoma State University and applicable national standards and regulations.
Coordinate student staff in-service trainings specific to emergency, accident and incident protocols. Recommend changes to emergency action plan as needed. Track and maintain relevant certifications for staff and the department.operations.
Participate in overall department assessment and goal planning.
Assist as needed in all required departmental functions.
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
1-2 years of experience managing aquatics facilities and experience in a membership services or guest services role.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification within six months of hire.
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) within 90 days of hire.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking;
Demonstrated experience working with budgets and facility risk management;
Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop partnerships and work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, results-oriented team;
Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and best practices in collegiate recreation aquatics facility management;
Demonstrated knowledge of theories and practices in promoting student development and learning;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Demonstrated experience organizing and developing leaders through practical application and learning;
Demonstrated success managing, supervising, and mentoring student employees
Demonstrated integrity, ethics, and commitment to diversity and inclusion;
Commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING/EDUCATION
Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, student affairs, higher education administration or other related field. If in progress, must be completed by date of hire.
Successful professional, internship or graduate assistantship experience in facility operations or aquatics management.
2-3 years of successful professional experience in aquatics facility and recreation facility operations management.
