DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement hiring/employment process for over 650 student & part-time employees within Campus Recreation.
Direct application process for over 1000 student & part-time employment applications per year.
Continually review process to ensure effectiveness.
Make recommendations in functionality of online application systems and alterations in overall application process for student & part-time employees.
Serve as the primary point of contact for part-time employment inquiries.
Work in conjunction with IT Programmer to resolve application issues.
Oversee recruitment initiatives for student & part-time employment.
Develop marketing and promotion efforts around employment opportunities; in conjunction with the marketing department implement these efforts which may include print information, website design and social media outreach.
Develop and implement strategies for creating a diverse applicant pool and assist supervisors with strategies for diverse hiring.
Compile information and data in conjunction with monthly, mid-year and yearly reports. Including, but not limited to, Federal Work Study information and diverse student hires.
Ensure compliance with campus, state and federal laws related to hiring.
In coordination with IT, manage the internal employee database which acts as a hub for employee management in regards to information, employee records, electronic payroll, discipline, development.
Lead department-wide training program for all student & part-time employees.
Develop and implement core training program including Campus Recreation culture, risk management and communication.
Develop and implement leadership development training for student leaders.
Develop and implement professional development workshops for all student employees.
Lead orientation sessions for all new hires regardless of hiring unit to form common departmental and institutional knowledge and values.
Assist Assistant Director of Human Resources with student & part-time employee compliance related to Ethics Training, Background Checks and other University-mandated trainings.
Assist Risk Manager with compliance in all safety trainings including, CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Student Development Graduate Assistant and Student Lead staff, and Human Resource Intern within Campus Recreation.
Determine staffing needs and hire qualified candidates based upon experience, skills and ability to contribute to the diverse needs of the University of Illinois and Campus Recreation
Prioritize tasks, schedule and assign/delegate duties to part-time employees.
Direct Employee Performance Management Program
Train new supervisors on Campus Recreation discipline policy and program for student & part-time employees.
Assist supervisors in disciplinary meetings with student & part-time employee
In conjunction with Assistant Director of Human Resources, provide guidance to supervisors in discipline-related matters.
Review program for effectiveness and make changes as needed.
Coordinate employee recognition initiatives including, employee of the month, staff appreciation and annual honor banquet.
Support all student & part-time employee supervisors.
Assist in individual unit hiring process, when needed.
Assist in individual unit training's as requested.
Direct Campus Recreation Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives.
Demonstrate Campus Recreation’s commitment to cultural competency by developing programs, policies and training's to meet the needs of all students, including those of different racial and religious backgrounds, students with disabilities, student veterans, the LGBT community, and international students to ensure there is a place for everyone at Campus Recreation.
Create and foster an environment within Campus Recreation and University spaces and programs that models inclusion and accessibility.
Implement program guidelines and standards for inclusive programs including program content, accessibility and leadership/instructor standards.
Serve as a liaison to other campus departments regarding diversity initiatives. Develop relationships to further Campus Recreation vision statement of “a place for everyone”
Assist with Human Resources processes as necessary.
Attend state and regional student leadership workshops and accompany student participants.
Participate in the development of programs, departmental objectives and long-range planning by performing research, providing recommendations and implementing plans as appropriate.
Serve on Department and/or University committees as assigned.
Design and implement special projects that support the overall mission of Campus Recreation.
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Recreation, Sport and Tourism or related field.
A minimum of one year of experience with supervision, management or training of student or part-time employees
Prior experience working with college students is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Student and/or Leadership Development theories and practices.
Strong written and verbal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, faculty, staff, students and community patrons.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project review deadlines.
Strong commitment to diversity and developing a comprehensive understanding of the needs of diverse student and user groups.
This position is a 12 month, 100% time academic professional position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
