The Marketing Coordinator assists the Senior Assistant Director of Marketing, Communication and External Relations in promoting and marketing all Campus Recreation services including programs and events, as well as all Campus Recreation facilities and schedules. The Marketing Coordinator develops and delivers promotional and informational materials through a variety of communications channels to engage and bring awareness to the Campus Recreation activities and services. This position will assist with the graphic design and branding needs for the department. The Coordinator will also manage and lead all efforts in digital outreach through various social media channels, email, and the Campus Recreation website. The position coordinates the student marketing staff hiring, scheduling, and development of the marketing staff. The primary purpose of this position is to directly interact with students and enhance their experience by showing the many ways Tar Heels Stay Active with Campus Recreation. The position will report to the Senior Assistant Director for Marketing, Communication and External Relations.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Student Personnel Management and Departmental Development 40%
Responsible for all student marketing personnel management actions including all recruiting, hiring, training and scheduling.
Prioritize multiple projects with complex milestones and varying timelines for project management leadership.
Lead marketing student staff through mentorship, technique, and skill development
Supervise student staff in the programming and executing of recreational activities throughout campus
Conduct semesterly performance evaluations for student staff
Partner with Campus Recreation staff to create and execute innovative strategies and marketing plans that drive awareness and engagement, to our program/services through semester and yearly planning and goal setting
Social Media, Web, and Analytic Content Management 35%
Develop and execute communication strategies for a wide range of promotional campaigns Across all relevant social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, and TikTok)
Proactively be able to monitor and respond to questions and comments from patrons, users, and followers during and outside of office hours.
Create and edit in-the-moment content to be shared and viewed through the various social channels
Create conceptually strong visual designs and graphics through fluency with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva in support of brand guidelines and departmental goals.
Design production-ready assets such as logos, icons, and graphics for digital displays, flyers, posters, exhibits, university-wide fairs, and informational sessions.
Develop creative and compelling short stories telling the many stories of how Tarheels Stay Active through the creation of long and short form video.
Preform efficient use of advanced photography and video equipment, drones, and editing software
Through data interpretation and analytics, translate reports to better enhance the Campus Recreation web experience strategies and outcomes.
Identify optimization opportunities for improving performance and number of participants through use of the Campus Recreation websites.
Thoroughly maintain, curate, and create content for Campus Recreation web sites
Oversee and maintain the web based calendar of events and Hours of operation
Maintain and organize the expansive internal asset management. This will include statistical data, photo and video content, programming details and information, and survey feedback.
External Relations and Engagement 20%
Lead efforts and evaluation of engagement and inclusive experience outside of Campus Recreation facilities, programs, and activities through tabling, promotional outreach activities, and conversational sourcing throughout the campus
Organize and Execute Campus Recreation student, faculty/staff, and affiliate user newsletters and briefs through services like Mailchimp or CRM systems like Hubspot.
Collaborate with various UNC Chapel Hill departments and in and out of Student Affairs while representing Campus Recreation by serving on various committees.
Assist with onsite sponsorship activations and promotions through maintained relationship building with outside vendors and businesses
Assist with the creation, implementation and management of surveys for programming, experience, and promotional purposes. Gather and evaluate feedback to provide quality decision points to continue to make better experiences for the campus community and public.
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
Master’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, media management or related field
Higher Education professional working experience in marketing
