All open positions will require an emphasis on Campus Recreation operations including direct facility supervision on a rotating schedule. Additional specialization options are also available in the areas of aquatics, facilities/operations, fitness, marketing, member services or student employee development areas. These positions have been intentionally designed to have an emphasis on teamwork and flexibility as our department seeks to remain well poised to serve our participants through evolving conditions.
These positions will oversee and support the activities housed within the dedicated recreational space of the Student Fitness Center and the shared recreation space in the Vadalabene Center and other auxiliary facilities (200,000 total sq. ft.). These facilities include a total of six basketball courts, 25-yard pool, two climbing areas, two group fitness rooms, cycling room, multi-sport court, two informal fitness/strength areas, a dedicated weight room, indoor jogging track, racquetball courts, multipurpose areas and two member service stations all of which typically operate seven days a week. A combined workload of an average of 20 hours per week is expected; some early morning, evening and weekend work is required.
TERM OF CONTRACT:
(Negotiable) August 15, 2020 – May 15, 2021, with the possibility for summer employment and contract renewal.
Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis and the successful applicant must be admitted into a related SIUE graduate program of study such as college student personnel administration, exercise physiology, exercise and sport psychology or other strongly related program. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study is also required. Prior relevant work experience is preferred. The person must have strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of recreation facilities, equipment and personnel supervision. Successful candidates will be asked to maintain CPR/AED certification from a nationally recognized agency during the time of employment. A strong combination of specific academic and/or experiential training is recommended.

Additional Salary Information:
Full in/out of state tuition waiver plus a stipend of $1086.30 per month for the first year and a longevity bonus to $1153.62 per month in the second year. Professional development resources are also available. Employee is responsible for student fees. Per Internal Revenue Service regulations (IRC 127), federal taxes will be withheld on tuition waiver amounts exceeding $5,250 in the calendar year (January-December).
