Old Dominion University is currently accepting applications for 7 Graduate Assistant positions for the 2021-22 academic year. We are seeking 1 Esports GA, 1Facilities GA, 1 Fitness & Wellness GA, 1 Group Exercise & Instructional Programming GA, 1 Intramural Sports GA, 1 Outdoor Adventure Challenge Course GA, and 1 Outdoor Adventure Trips Program & Special Events GA.
The GA positions require an average of 20 hours per week on an established schedule that fits with the student’s course demands. The schedule will include weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and some holidays. A stipend of $10,000 will be paid over the fall and spring semesters. There is a 61% tuition and fees waiver for eligible out-of-state students. A full tuition waiver will be offered for Ph.D. students. Summer employment may be available. The employment contract runs August 10, 2021 through May 9, 2022 and maybe renewed based on performance evaluation. There is also an opportunity for hourly employment during the summer.

Esports (1 position) - The Esports Graduate Assistant assists the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Esports with administrative responsibility for the Esports programs and gaming facility. Responsibilities include recruiting, training and supervising esports facility staff, managing varsity esports practices and game schedules, managing gaming software and licenses, managing broadcast streams, and executing outreach to prospective students and parents.
Facility Operations (1 position) – The Facility Operations Graduate Assistant serves as an official representative of the Recreation & Wellness Department during duty hours and is responsible for: recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating student employees, overseeing safety, security and risk management for facilities and events, and developing and managing policies and procedures for facilities.
Fitness & Wellness (1 position)- The Fitness & Wellness Graduate Assistant is responsible for training and evaluating fitness specialists, assisting with program implementation, coordinating fitness & wellness programming, and developing and managing policies and procedures for Fitness & Wellness staff.
Group Exercise & Instructional Programming (1 position) - The Group Exercise & Instructional Programming Graduate Assistant is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating exercise instructors, coordinating the group exercise and small group training programs, implementing Fitness & Wellness special events and developing and managing policies and procedures for Fitness & Wellness staff.
Intramural & Extramural Sports (1 position) – The Intramural & Extramural Sports Graduate Assistant is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating student Intramural managers and officials, producing league schedules, tournament brackets and event schedules, conducting workshops on rules, techniques, policies and officiating procedures and maintaining accurate records related to participation, budget and equipment inventory.
Outdoor Adventure Program – Adventure Trips Program and Special Events (1 position) – The Adventure Trips Program & Special Events Graduate Assistant is responsible for the development and management of the Outdoor Adventure Program, specifically the trip program and multiple special events. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising student employees, planning and leading trips, assisting in the development of the semester trip schedule, budgeting, and marketing.
Outdoor Adventure Program – Climbing Trips Program and Challenge Course (1 position) – The Challenge Course Graduate Assistant is responsible for the development and management of the Outdoor Adventure Program, specifically the challenge course program and multiple special events. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising student employees, planning and leading group experiences, assisting in the development of the semester program schedule, budgeting, and marketing
