Towson University is currently accepting applications for Graduate Assistants (GA) for the 2021-2022 academic year. We are seeking one GA for each of the following areas: Aquatics & Safety, Competitive Sports, Fitness, Marketing, Membership & Guest Services, and Outdoor Adventures. GA positions will remain open until filled. Towson University Campus Recreation Campus Recreation, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, is dedicated to Towson University’s mission of creating a vibrant and healthy campus. Our dedicated team comprised of 18 professional staff members and 8 GAs support the success of TU students by providing state-of-the-art facilities and dynamic programs that promote physical and social benefits, as well as experiential education. Graduate Assistant, Aquatics & Safety The Graduate Assistant, Aquatics & Safety will assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Campus Recreation Aquatics programs. This GA will aid in coordinating and teaching ARC CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer-First Aid Certification Classes and will provide oversight, supervision, and direction to the aquatics program including student staff interviewing, orientating, supervising and evaluation as well as administrative processing of all courses. This GA will also provide event supervision as it relates to facility safety and access control including monitoring and maintaining access and security systems, employee supervision, and risk management during various aquatics and safety events. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend hours required as needed. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Aquatics and Safety. Graduate Assistant, Competitive Sports The Graduate Assistant, Competitive Sports will provide administrative and operational support to the Competitive Sports professional staff. Over the course of the two-year assistantship, the GA will benefit from two unique and immersive experiences, spending one full academic year with sport clubs and another in intramural sports. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, planning and facilitating training sessions, student staff supervision, risk management, program development, advising club officers, scheduling, providing onsite supervision of night and weekend programming, and serving as a member of the Campus Recreation professional staff including attending weekly departmental staff meetings. Responsibilities may vary based on the evolving needs of the department and the skills of the applicant. Evening and weekend hours are required. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports, and the Coordinator, Intramural Sports. Graduate Assistant, Fitness The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Fitness serves as part of the fitness leadership team. The GA responsibilities will be focused on the administration and management of the fitness program to include student development, risk management, and programming to enhance the well-being of the university community. The GA will assist in all areas of fitness programming and operations in order to develop a well-rounded fitness professional that is prepared for a full-time career. This will include supervising fitness floor attendants and/or program development in group fitness. Graduate Assistant, Marketing & Communications The Graduate Assistant, Marketing & Communications will work directly with the Assistant Director, Marketing & Communications to develop and enhance marketing and communication efforts for the Department of Campus Recreation. The Graduate Assistant will work closely with the student marketing staff to assist in a variety of marketing initiatives including print, digital, in-person, social media, and video creation. The ability to work summers and winter breaks is desired, as marketing materials are prepped for the upcoming semester. Evening and weekend hours required as needed. This position is a full 2-year commitment. Graduate Assistant, Membership & Guest Services The Graduate Assistant, Membership & Guest Services will assist with operational support and supervision of Membership, Guest, and Equipment Room Services. Primary responsibilities will consist of assisting with student employee supervision, risk management, business practices, Innosoft Fusion recreation software management, and equipment check out. The Graduate Assistant will work closely with members and guests to resolve customer service and conflict resolution issues. As a member of the Campus Recreation department, the Graduate Assistant, Membership & Guest Services will hold additional responsibilities that serve the greater needs of the department. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Membership & Guest Services. Evening and weekend hours are required as needed. Graduate Assistant, Outdoor Adventures The Graduate Assistant – Outdoor Adventures will primarily work with student, volunteer Outdoor Trip Leaders and is responsible for the training and evaluation of current Outdoor Trip staff and an annual cohort of Outdoor Trip Leaders In-Training. This position requires multiple field-instruction days per month leading activity-specific training and open-enrollment and custom trip programming. The Graduate Assistant is an essential member of the leadership team of Outdoor Adventures and serves as a mentor to several student managers and up to 60 students across all functional areas of Outdoor Adventures. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Outdoor Adventures & Student Development, but will also be accountable to the Coordinator – Outdoor Adventure Center in helping to manage the Gear Rental program.
