South Dakota State University Miller Wellness Center is seeking two dynamic individuals to serve as a Competitive Sports & Summer Camps and Facility Operations, Events & Outdoor Programs Graduate Assistant.

The Miller Wellness Center is dedicated to supporting academic success and personal development by promoting and encouraging healthy lifestyles for all members. The Wellness Center is an integrated wellness facility consisting of 8 areas: Fitness, Competitive Sports, Outdoor Programs, Health Promotion, Nutrition Services, Student Health Clinic, Counseling Services, & the Jackrabbit Pharmacy. The Wellness Center features over 110,000 square feet of space including a brand new 38,000 sq. ft addition, which opened in fall 2018.

Competitive Sports & Summer Camps
Assist in the development and management of a competitive sports program comprising of intramural sports, sport clubs, and summer camps.
Lead student staff development including recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating.
Develop and lead sport-specific official’s trainings.
Develop and administer trainings for Sport Club members, officers, coaches, and advisors.
Operate the official’s development program, utilizing video and written evaluations of 20+ officials.
Develop and conduct regularly scheduled meetings for Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs.
Coordinate members, travel, budget allocation, and policy development for all Sport Clubs through DSE.
Assist with the development and execution of marketing and promotion of the Competitive Sports program.
Oversee facility and equipment readiness including painting fields and equipment set up for all Intramural Sports and Sport Club facilities.
Manage the Intramural Sports Greek League including tracking participation and awarding points.
Plan, direct, and oversee Healthy Jacks Camp including staffing, training, program design, and implementation of camp policies and procedures.
Assist in the assessment of Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs and use that feedback to make improvements.
Oversee the Intramural Golden Whistle Program through tracking points, awarding whistles.
Assist in the coordination of off-campus facilities.
Collaborate with state recreation departments for SoDak eSports League including marketing, rules, scheduling, and awards.
Facility Operations, Events & Outdoor Programs
Support the overall operation of a 110,000 sq. ft. facility that includes five multipurpose courts, climbing wall, fitness, and weight equipment, three group fitness studios, indoor pool, and two racquetball courts.
Assist in the review and development of all risk management policies, procedures, and training of student staff to ensure quality customer service and safety for all patrons during open facility hours.
Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating of student staff.
Assist in the supervision of the member services desk operations including equipment inventory for rental and retail sale, Fusion software, and troubleshooting.
Provide leadership within the Wellness Center by providing support to student staff, the Operations and Events Coordinator, and the other graduate and full-time staff.
Develop and manage the Outdoor Program, specifically focusing on adventure trips, skills clinics, gear rentals, and climbing wall.
Oversee regular wall programming and the annual Octboulderfest bouldering competition.
Ensure accurate record keeping and reporting of day-to-day operations including patron counts, maintenance schedules, and repairs.
Assist in the development of an annual budget reflecting all aspects of the facility and outdoor program, including student payroll, equipment purchasing, and operational expenses.
Assist in the marketing and promotion of the Outdoor Program.
Assist in the coordination of all facility reservations and events for internal programming, University affiliated organizations, and other non-affiliated entities.

Admissions Requirements: 300 combined GRE required for the Exercise Science program; No GRE required for Sport & Recreational Studies. GPA over 3.0 in last two years required.
Academic Plan: 30 credit hours plus thesis, 32 credit hours plus research paper, or 35 credit hours without thesis. Exercise science requires thesis or research paper.

Additional Salary Information: A 9-month 25% appointment. Approximately 20-25 hours per week. Summer employment is available up to 40 hours per week. Approximately $9,000 or $12.50/hour and a full tuition waiver. Student is responsible for activity fees and books. Both in and out of state students paid $50.10/credit hour for fees in 2020-21. Total cost to you for a master’s degree at SDState over two years: $1,500-$1,750. Professional development funding is available.
