INSTITUTION/DEPARTMENT: University of Houston is a Division I college with over 46,000 undergraduate and post graduate students enrolled. Campus Recreation has a $53 million facility that contains five courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, a Multi-Activity-Court used primarily for indoor soccer and volleyball. The quarter mile suspended track surrounds all of the courts, one of the largest indoor climbing walls in Texas, as well as a 24,000 square foot fitness zone containing free weights, selectorized and cardio equipment. There are also five group fitness studios and a functional training studio available for group exercise and personal training. The aquatic facilities include a 70-meter competition pool, indoor spa, dry sauna, as well as an outdoor leisure pool, outdoor spa, and sand volleyball court.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Operations Coordinator will be responsible for the direct supervision of staff that oversee functions such as facility access control where they are a first contact point for all members and guests, equipment check out procedures and inventory, and informal recreation spaces for reservations and event set-up. Additional responsibilities include risk management and support in overall facility operations as needed. Evening/weekend/holiday work is required as needed.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule approximately 50 Welcome Desk student staff; plan and implement staff onboarding and new hire trainings, monthly in-services, and staff development and team initiatives. Maintain and submit weekly payroll for Operations student staff.
Oversee and manage Equipment Issue which includes daily inventory checks, inspections, and sending notices for overdue equipment. Maintain equipment database and make recommendations for equipment replacement or purchases; Follow-up on all incident reports related to damaged equipment.
Assist with the implementation of risk management procedures including facility inspections, conducting staff safety trainings, maintaining staff certification database, following-up on daily shift reports, and updating all program area documentation monthly.
Assist with Operations budget planning and allocations as related to equipment issue, facility supplies, and student staff wages.
Contribute to the development and submission of Operations assessments and evaluations related to student development including technical skills, student learning outcomes, and leadership.
Assist with application of policies and procedures as they relate to the facility and access control. Follow-up on all incident reports related to access control and confiscated IDs daily. Respond to questions and concerns of users with Tier One customer service. Assist with the development and implementation of customer service and policy audits along with communication tools to ensure customer service standards are fully met.
Serve as point of contact on site for day of special events including set up, and execution as needed.
Serves on department and division committees, performs special projects or other job-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Health Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation or related field. Master’s degree preferred. One year of professional experience with facility management and operations. Direct oversight of a facility/operations staff of 25 or more is preferred. Graduate Assistant position will be counted as years of experience. Applicants should demonstrate ability to lead, organize and manage. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated leadership ability are also desirable. Team oriented ideals, willingness to work hard, and a desire to learn is important in this position.
