Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness was constructed in 1999 and is one of the premier sports and wellness facilities in the country. The facility serves both the University and Denver communities in providing events, programs, and services that engage and develop people to lead healthy and happy lives.
The Youth Programs Manager is focused on achieving the following results for the Division of Athletics and Recreation: Lead, manage and report upon youth programming efforts within the Division of Athletics & Recreation, including PASS Camp, School Days Off, Learn to Play Programs, Field Trips and other programs as assigned. Programming is to be managed to the core values of the Ritchie Center with an emphasis on safety, service, quality, sales, and accountability. Identify, implement and execute new trends and ideas that keep youth programs current and aligned with the Division of Athletics and Recreation philosophy for the customer to maintain high retention rates and new sales. Deliver an exceptional customer experience to all visitors of the Ritchie Center by managing front line and programmatic interactions, including parking, facility entry and access, transaction experience, facility quality, communication, safety, and overall customer service. This position is responsible for achieving gross revenue of $650,000 for PASS Camp, $125,000 in School Days off and $175,000 in Learn to Play programs and camps. Position will be required to work a varied schedule will include evenings, nights, and week-ends.
Responsible for the administration and execution of the University of Denver's Youth Programs. This includes achieving annual PASS Camp revenue of $650,000+, $125,000+ in School Days off and $175,000+ Learn to Play Programs and camps.
Create and maintain program lesson plans, outlines, and/or processes for School Days Off, PASS Camp and Learn to Play Programs and Camps.
Ensure all youth programs and/or events are set-up in RecTrac and ready for registration a minimum of 90 days prior to start date.
Responsible for providing initial and on-going training for youth programs staff to ensure that all policies, procedures and operating protocols are understood and executed.
Ensure that youth programs staff have completed necessary certifications/trainings and audit records quarterly to prevent non-compliance.
Responsible for creating show on the road and marketing at various university events, schools and community events.
Responsible for conducting an annual evaluation of program processes and procedures.
Manage youth programs revenue/expense budget in a fiscally responsible manner and achieve approved fiscal goals.
Ensure all work orders or conversion requests are submitted a minimum of four (4) weeks prior to program/event date.
Ensure programs have adequate supplies. Responsible for purchasing program supplies in accordance with University Purchasing Policies.
Create, implement and follow sales plans for PASS camp, School Days Off, and Learn to Play Programs and Camps.
Work with program area Assistant Director to accurately develop, forecast, and analyze program budgets.
Responsible for developing positive relationships with customers and staff. Respond to all customer inquiries and complaints within a timely (48 hours) manner.
Responsible for being present during programs and/or events.
Recruit, interview and hire youth programs personnel as needed. This includes verification and submittal of all necessary hiring documents prior to employment start date for all student, non-student and work study staff.
Ensure all staff members in the youth programs area are CPR/First Aid/AED/Concussion certified and hold appropriate industry certifications or licenses prior to working their first shift.
Responsible for submitting and approving youth program staff payroll hours on a bi-weekly basis.
Utilize all necessary means to ensure adequate communication to all youth programs staff. This includes using the Connect2, email lists, signage and any other means necessary.
Manage all youth programs staff in accordance with University and Divisional policies and procedures. Address all performance issues in a timely manner.
Ensure youth programs and/or events are properly staffed and program and parking information is communicated to all customers and Ritchie Center staff.
Execute youth programs program and/or event checklists. Conduct an annual evaluation of the checklist for additions and/or changes based on program/event/facility needs.
Perform facility walkthroughs prior to and at the conclusion of all programs and/or events. Ensure all program equipment is properly stored and the venue is reset.
Supervises and engages with participants and staff, encouraging positive participation, leading by example through actions, interactions and participation in program activities.
Maintains order and discipline with the children, using positive feedback, and enforces rules and the three-strike policy to create a safe and fun environment for all.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Language Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and participation statistics. Also, familiarity with financial concepts such as budget development/forecasting, depreciation, contribution margin, etc.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work with the public with tact and judgment. Excellent organizational skills required.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be able to operate work-related equipment; and effectively communicate verbally with customers and employees of the university. The employee must be able to frequently move about the office with capability of transporting files or objects up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: The employee works in a standard office. Unexpected interruptions occur frequently and the stress level is moderate. Evening and Weekend hours are expected.

Work Schedule Varies, nights and weekends are required.
