Who We Are: https://youtu.be/cCxOWtyHhOc About Our Staff Culture: https://youtu.be/qyRoURTxFDI Position Summary The Sr. Assistant Director for Fitness & Special Programs will manage 6 professional staff in the delivery of recreation and wellness programing, primarily in the areas of fitness, integrated communication, student development and climbing & challenge education. This position will report to and work collaboratively with the Sr. Associate Director, Programs. Responsible for hiring, supervising, evaluating, and developing the full-time professional staff who oversee a wide variety of program areas. Provide leadership, expertise, and guidance to all professional staff to ensure diverse, innovative, inclusive, educational, and safe programs. Oversee all budgets within their area of supervision and coach professional staff to become excellent financial stewards. Cultivate and maintain collaborative partnerships with campus and community leaders. Serve on department leadership team to assist with departmental goals, priorities, and policies that require excellent knowledge, initiative, judgment, and critical thinking. May execute capital projects and business continuation plans. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Duties & Responsibilities Fitness: Provide administrative oversight for all department fitness programs, services and operations including fitness education/promotion, fitness equipment purchasing, personal training, group fitness and private instructor requests. Responsible for providing personal and professional development opportunities to four professional staff, 40 personal trainers and 30 fitness instructors. Responsible for oversight of budget preparation, planning, and management. Work with staff to ensure appropriate budget management techniques and purchasing procedures. Coach and address professional staff needs on a daily basis. Integrated Communication: Oversee one professional staff member and a team of 10 student staff who are responsible for oversight of department communication efforts, which include: website, digital signs, print, social media channels, department newsletter and FusionGo app. Serve as the liaison with Student Life Marketing on larger projects. Educate the Purdue community on RecWell facilities, programs and services through multiple fairs, homecoming, preview days, etc. Assess effectiveness and satisfaction of marketing and outreach strategies. Student Development: Oversee one professional staff member who manages all departmental student development and learning efforts for over 800 student employees. This includes all-student trainings, student employee recognition programs, personal and professional development opportunities and a department student leadership committee. Oversee departmental student hiring, training, and evaluation practices and a professional internship program and its associated development curriculum. Develop relationships with campus partners to increase co-curricular opportunities for development of student and professional internship staff. Climbing & Challenge Education: Oversee one professional staff member who manages a variety of teambuilding and adventure education programs and facilities including a progressive challenge education program with both low and high team challenge courses, a 55’ tall indoor climbing wall and associated climbing education programs, a 55’ wide bouldering wall and a fast-growing virtual escape room program. Miscellaneous: Collaborate and assist with other departmental planning, policy development, implementation, and evaluation as assigned by the Sr. Associate Director, Programs.
