University Recreation at the University of Arkansas is seeking candidates for Graduate Assistant positions in the following areas to help them achieve their mission to empower students for success through recreation and wellness:
Outdoors : The Graduate Assistant of UREC Outdoors reports to the Assistant Director for UREC Outdoors. This position will assist with the hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of the UREC Outdoors rental center, climbing wall, bike shop, and trip leaders. Fitness and Wellness: The Graduate Assistant for Fitness Wellness will assist the Assistant Director of Fitness Wellness with the day-to-day responsibilities of the University Recreation fitness and wellness programming. This position will recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate approximately 10 personal trainers and small group training instructors; ensure up-to-date techniques and customer service to program clients, including special populations; oversee daily operations of fitness programs, including registration, attendance records, and equipment/facility upkeep; maintain comprehensive records for the semester and annual reports; assist in supervision and leadership of fitness/wellness program assistant; assist in the development, marketing, coordination, and evaluation of programs and special events; perform outreach fitness, wellness, and educational services to the University community through classes, seminars, and special events; develop staff leadership and development opportunities specific to group fitness programming; lead program area staff meetings and instruct the ACE Personal Training Prep Course annually; teach American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid classes each semester; contribute to collaborative departmental programming and training efforts; complete other duties as assigned. Marketing: The University Recreation Marketing Graduate Assistant Assistant will support the assistant director by assisting with the execution of marketing tactics and programming, and member retention initiatives and recruitment. Qualifications: All Graduate Assistantships require a Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into the University of Arkansas Graduate School. Preference is given to candidates in the following majors: Higher Education, Recreation and Sport Management, or Kinesiology.
Compensation: Graduate Assistants receive a $14,600 stipend annually plus tuition waiver (fees excluded) and professional development stipend (pending funding) for a minimum of 28 work hours per week. Each Graduate Assistantship begins June 28, 2021 and concludes June 30, 2022 with the option to renew for a 2nd year.
