The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee's University Recreation Department is currently seeking a Director for its Outdoor Pursuits Program. The Department of University Recreation (UREC) is a comprehensive recreational sports department that operates three facilities and offers a broad spectrum of recreational sports programming and services.
Responsibilities: The purpose of Outdoor Pursuits is to help individuals form deeper connections with themselves, others, and the natural environment through meaningful and challenging activity-based involvement that promotes personal development. The goal of Outdoor Pursuits is to provide a robust outdoor experiential program, based in an urban research university. Minimum Qualifications: 1) Post-baccalaureate coursework in Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration, or related field, and 2) At least one year of full-time professional management experience in Recreation, Recreational Sports or closely related field. 3) Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid Certification (Expired or Current)
Preferred Qualifications: 1) Master’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration, or related field; 2) Experience with the management, administration, developing, designing, facilitating, and supervising Outdoor Programs. 3) Experience as a primary trip leader and guide involving extended trips. 4) Experience in supervising and training others in trip planning, coordination, and transportation. 5) Experience with outdoor equipment rental, purchasing, maintenance, conditioning, repair, and storage 6) Experience recruiting, training, leading and supervising students in Outdoor Recreation roles in a higher education setting 7) Experience with budgeting programs 8) Experience with risk management and the implementation of risk management plans 9) Instructor level certification with any certifying organization, or outdoor programming certification.

Additional Salary Information: This is a 12-month full-time Academic Staff position. This position comes with a competitive salary and benefit package. The minimum of the salary range is $45,000. The starting salary offer will be dependent upon the finalist’s experience and qualifications.
