Well-Being and Fitness Operations Graduate Assistant
The Graduate Assistant for the Well-Being & Fitness program plays an essential role in the operation of the Ohio University Well-being & Recreation. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Well-Being and Fitness and is responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Well-Being and Fitness in overseeing operations related to Group Fitness, F45 Training, and Personal Training. The Well-Being & Fitness Operations Graduate Assistant directly supervises the Group Fitness Instructors, F45 Coaches, and Personal Trainers. This position is also responsible for the coordination and scheduling of fitness classes for Group Fitness and F45, as well as assisting with, organizing, developing, and implementing fitness related educational programs and special events.
The goal of the position is to involve the Outdoor Pursuits GA in all aspects of the administration of a university outdoor pursuits program, with emphasis on trip programming, challenge course programming, logistics and gear management, and climbing wall management. This is a nine-month appointment beginning July, 2020 (with opportunity to start in June) and requires a commitment of 20 hours / week including office hours. The intention is for the chosen individual to hold this position for two years while they are in graduate school.
The Graduate Assistant will work with the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports to provide leadership, strategic planning, administration and day-to-day operations of intramural and club sports programs within the Department of Ohio University Well-being & Recreation. Primary areas of responsibility include supervision of 150 competitive sports student personnel, oversight of intramural programs, advising club sport officers and Club Sports Executive Council, and assisting in the planning of clubs and program budget. In addition, the Graduate Assistant of Competitive Sports is expected to promote and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across all efforts of the department, university and community partners.
The Aquatic Center Graduate Assistant will assist with daily functions of the Aquatic Center with a strong focus on maintenance operations and event management. This position will also work closely with the Assistant Director of the Aquatic Center on program development and developing and implementing student trainings. This position works closely with Ohio University Well-being & Recreation professionals and graduate assistants to develop a fully integrated recreation program and focuses on the inclusion and well-being of OHIO students and the campus community.
The Marketing & Communication program with Ohio University Ohio University Well-being & Recreation provides experience in marketing, promotions, communication, digital and social media, and design/layout. This position works closely with a student marketing team in the promotion and communication of all programs and facilities housed in Ohio University Well-being & Recreation including the following: Aquatic Center, Bird Ice Arena, Charles J. Ping Recreation Center, Golf and Tennis Center, Driving Range, Walter Fieldhouse, Fitness, Intramural and Club Sports, and Outdoor Pursuits. In addition, the marketing team works to brand the department as one cohesive unit to include both university and department brand standards, consistency in the output of marketing materials and social media accounts, and a consistent voice for OHIO Ohio University Well-being & Recreation . The marketing team oversees departmental social media accounts and provides content for University Well-Being and student life accounts.
The Reservation and Events Graduate Assistant with Ohio University Well-being & Recreation provides support and guidance through the reservation and scheduling process of each of Ohio University Well-being & Recreation ’s facilities to ensure consistent and exceptional service, provide patrons with a quality experience and continue a commitment to customer communication and engagement. The Reservation and Events Graduate Assistant will assist in reservations and rentals for a variety of populations including Community users, Reoccurring Private Renters, University Departments, Intercollegiate Athletics, Student Orgs, Campus and Conferences, all Ohio University Well-being & Recreation Departments.
Graduate Assistants at Ohio University receive a $13,500 stipend for Fall and Spring Semester (32 weeks)
Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in an Ohio University graduate program. A tuition waiver is contingent on approval from the academic department.
Summer hourly/training rate of $12.25 will be provided and may be available for university breaks
Graduate Assistant stipends require a commitment of 20 hours per week
Graduate Assistants must report for on-boarding and training August 2, 2021
