The Assistant Director will work with the Director to uphold the mission for Campus Recreation and its role within the of the Division of Student Affairs. This position will oversee daily operations of Swinney Center and ensure that programs and services for Campus Recreation are operating safely and efficiently. This position will supervise, mentor, and evaluate full-time professionals and graduate assistants. They will also lead the Student Development team for Campus Recreation and continue to build a successful student employment program. The Assistant Director will also work with campus and community partners to bring events to Swinney Center and ensure events and programs are successful.
Assist with the financial and strategic vision by preparing and implementing short and long term departmental goals, including facility updates.
Assist with the vision and implementation of a comprehensive student development model for the department.
Design, organize, and implement student trainings including new employee orientation and training for all student employees each semester.
Align the department with best practices in student employment using various resources such as NIRSA, NASPA, and NACE.
Develop program budget for staffing, training, supplies, equipment, and facility updates.
Provide benchmark statistics, analysis, and reporting on Campus Recreation programs, facilities, and services to help the department make data-informed decisions.
Responsible for overseeing the facility schedule including daily activities and special events and serve as the liaison between various programs.
Assist with developing and enforcing policies and procedures for all Campus Recreation facilities.
Establish and implement program area-specific risk management practices, policies, and procedures.
Maintain Fusion Innosoft to ensure efficient facility operation processes and user-friendly membership experiences
Work with Campus Facilities Management and Campus Partners for facilities related maintenance.
Work with Kansas City Athletics operations staff to assist with event management, facility scheduling, policies and procedures.
Collaborate with University departments to support collaboration through events and programming at Swinney Center.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or Recreation and Sport Management
At least six months experience supervising a team
At least six months experience in facility operations or event management
Knowledge of Student Development Theory
Knowledge of Fusion InnoSoft and Connect2 software systems
Must have a strong understanding of customer service and building relationships
