Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Fitness and Wellbeing, the Coordinator for Fitness and Wellbeing will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of Group Exercise, Personal Training, Instructional Classes, and Wellbeingprogramming. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellbeing programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Campus Recreation is comprised of 53 full-time staff and more than 900 student staff members.
Specific job responsibilities include:
Assist in the development, management and daily oversight of a comprehensive group exercise and instructional fitness schedule.
Help with the development and implementation of fitness and wellbeing-related programs, education and special events.
Hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student group exercise and instructional class instructors, while maintaining a high level of customer service.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of collegiate recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s degree is preferred. Knowledge of collegiate fitness and wellbeing programs including group exercise, personal training, small group training, instructional classes and wellbeing programming, as demonstrated through past experience in a collegiate setting. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices and industry standards as they relate to fitness andwellbeing program management, and national certification from ACE, AFAA, and/or ACSM is required. Candidates must have the ability to teach multiple group exercise formats and be able to train novice instructors how to lead group exercise classes. Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification is required.Work schedule will include some evening and weekend hours.
This position requires independent work on assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organization and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts. Required to take initiative and have flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential.
