The Division of Athletics & Recreation at the University of Denver is currently seeking intern candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of campus recreation. 10-month internships are available for the 2021-22 academic year in the following areas of focus: - Competitive Sports (1)

Competitive Sports Internship (1 position available) The Competitive Sports Intern will assist with the overall administration of the University of Denver's Club Sports and Intramural Sports programs. The Club Sports program includes 29 competitive teams and engages 18% of DU undergraduate students each year. The Intramural Sports program offers a variety of opportunities throughout the fall, winter, and spring quarters. The Competitive Sports Intern will focus primarily on Club Sports travel, team management, and event administration, in addition to Intramural Sports administrative duties, officiating, and officials’ trainings. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Managing team travel arrangements, competition scheduling and other needs related to Club Sports competitive travel.
- Assisting with Club Sports game supervision including on-site event management and special event planning/execution.
- Managing daily Club Sports cash deposits and club/program purchasing.
- Promoting Club Sports and Intramural Sports events and programs through various on-campus events throughout the year.
- Executing all club sports advisory board (CSAB) meetings, typically held every 2-3 weeks during each academic quarter.
- Participating in executive council meetings and the annual Club Sports allocation presentation/deliberation process.
- Assisting with intramural sports administrative duties through the use of IMLeagues.
- Providing on-site guidance to program officials through trainings and officiating.
- Executing intramural sports one-day tournaments, special events, and leagues.
- Providing excellent customer service to program participants, parents, and alumni.
- Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.
Member Services Internship (1 position available) The Member Services Intern will assist with managing the membership process within the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports & Wellness. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Responding to membership inquiries and providing facility tours to potential members.
- Assisting with the new member welcome process for the Ritchie Center.
- Assisting with the execution of member retention programs within the Ritchie Center.
- Providing front-line customer service, problem solving and handling of sensitive issues for all Ritchie Center guests, members, participants and University of Denver students.
- Utilizing RecTrac software for cash handling, reporting, membership and program sales.
- Serving as the supervisor-on-duty during scheduled intern hours.
- Participate in informational staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
- Special projects as assigned within one or more of the following program areas: aquatics, youth programming, ice programming, fitness center programming and special events.
- Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.
Facilities Internship (1 position available) The Facility intern will assist with supervising the overall facility operations of the 440,000+ square foot Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports & Wellness. This position’s duties are approximately 80% Facility Supervision/Daily Operations and 20% Project-Based Office Work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Supervising building operations during opening/closing hours on weekdays and weekends, normally working outside of when professional staff are working.
- Serving as the supervisor-on-duty during scheduled intern hours.
- Coordinating the daily shift tasks and productivity of all facility operations staff using Connect2.
- Assisting with part-time staff hiring, training, evaluations, and scheduling using SubItUp.
- Working closely with facility rentals and small meetings to ensure high quality events.
- Assisting with the on-shift training of Ritchie Center part-time staff.
- Providing front-line customer service, problem solving, and handling sensitive issues for all Ritchie Center guests, members, participants, and University of Denver students.
- Managing equipment inventory within the Ritchie Center using Connect2.
- Addressing facility and equipment issues using established work order/work request processes.
- Ensuring adequate supply levels, equipment functionality and facility standards related to programs.
- Utilizing RecTrac software for cash handling, reporting, and membership and program sales.
Overall Internship Program Details University of Denver interns will receive experience in their area of focus throughout the academic year. Internships are a 10-month position with an anticipated start date of August 2021 and will conclude at the end of Spring Quarter 2021 (early/mid-June 2022). Night/weekend availability is required. Interns are expected to work 20-25 internship hours per week with opportunities for additional hours in other areas in Recreation as interested/available. Other areas typically include: - Front Desk Operations (Coors Fitness Center and Joy Burns Arena)
