University Recreation (UREC) is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Aquatics and Safety.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the UREC Aquatics and Safety area, which includes management of the UREC Aquatics Center and development and implementation of a comprehensive educationally based program that includes aquatic programming, safety certification programming, swim lessons, and safety services for the JMU Community. This position will supervise, train and mentor a graduate assistant and large student staff. This position is integrated into many aspects of the departmental team and serves on the facility supervision team, risk management committee, and works regularly with the programming unit. This position has significant budget and administrative responsibilities, and regular collaboration with pool maintenance and operations staff.
Salary: Commensurate with experience with full Commonwealth of Virginia faculty benefit package. This is a 12-month full time administrative and professional faculty position with excellent benefits including 24 days of annual leave and 12 paid holidays along with a professional development stipend.
• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management or related field required • Master’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management or related field preferred • Two or more years of relevant full-time experience required (a graduate assistantship would be considered ½ year of experience per year) • Experience in aquatic or safety management and programming in a college environment preferred • Current Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR certifications are required to apply. Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid Instructor certification is required within the first six months of employment. • Preferred certifications: Instructor Trainer in Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and/or Water Safety; Blood Borne Pathogen Trainer; Certified Pool Operator
