The Rowan University Campus Recreation Department reports to the Division of Student Life. The department has three openings for an incoming graduate student who wants to join our professional team and learn the career readiness and employability skills for a potential career in campus recreation or higher education. With approximately 200 student and part-time staff, the department strives to promote health and well-being by providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment as well as promote the four core values of student development, quality, service, and relationships for all individuals of the Rowan community. The Recreation Center is a 92,000 square-foot facility featuring a three-court gymnasium, indoor track, two 25-yard pools, four racquetball courts, a cycling room, a group exercise studio, fitness and free-weight room areas, full locker/shower facilities, and a café area. In Fall 2017 Campus Recreation opened an additional 17,000 square-foot satellite facility (Rowan Fitness Center @ Victoria St.) with the newest trends in fitness equipment. The assistantship will provide the student with comprehensive, hands on training to further enhance their professional development in the fields of marketing and recreation. Responsibilities: - Collaborate with professional staff to create new marketing strategies, promotional campaigns, and events
- Assist with the hiring, management, and development of the marketing student staff which is comprised of 5 marketing assistants including graphic designers
- Lead the Campus Rec street team by providing collateral, and organizing tabling events
- Design flyers, brochures, posters, and other print materials and share them around campus
- Create digital collateral, including television ads, social media graphics, short videos, media and website graphics
- Schedule social media posts promoting Campus Rec services, programs, and events
- Work closely with the university social media office to ensure compliance with university standards
- Engage with the online community to foster strong customer relationships
- Gather social media metrics using Sprout Social, website traffic using Cascade, and newsletter metrics using MailChimp
- Compile and analyze social media analytic reports to improve existing promotional campaigns and strategies
- Maintain and update the Campus Rec website using the Cascade software
- Make edits to the Campus Rec FusionGo App as needed and update member portal widgets regularly
- Schedule push notifications on the mobile app to promote services, programs, and events and to announce closures and cancellations
- Manage communications media for the facilities including all digital displays and networked fitness equipment
- Manage and maintain photo archives from programs and events
- Oversee temporary facility signage and maintain promotional materials including digital and tabletop displays, bulletin boards, and giveaways
- Coordinate marketing opportunities with other campus departments
- Assist with related research and survey development, assessments, and evaluation of departmental programs

The Graduate Coordinator will assist with all hiring, training, and development of approximately 30 student employees and will serve an active role in promoting the growth of Campus Recreation as a department on campus. The goal of this position is to both build on the intramural sports & special event offerings and to develop this individual into a well-rounded and fully-prepared Campus Recreation professional. Responsibilities: Intramural Sports Responsibilities - Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive intramural sports program consisting of all team sports, individual/dual sports, and special events utilizing IMLeagues software
- Oversee coordination all intramural sport activities alongside student program coordinators
- Coordinate with the marketing department to promote intramural team sports, individual/dual sports, and special events through a variety of mediums (print, social media, e-mail announcers, lawn signs, sidewalk stickers, etc.)
- Work with Assistant Director to oversee intramural esports offerings including managing intramural discord server, tournament organizers, and student streamers/casters
- Lead new marketing initiatives with goal of attracting additional participants to intramural sport offerings including drop-in events, face-to-face marketing initiatives, and other creative options
- Assist with web page development and updates, intramural policy development, ejected player meetings, and equipment inventory/purchasing process
- Utilize various online, video, and technology platforms for staff training, information, quizzes, and assessment
- Develop participant surveys and focus groups to assess satisfaction and provide opportunity for suggestions
- Attend at least one night/week of intramural sports programming to ensure quality & provide ongoing feedback to student officials & supervisors
- Direct and manage staff scheduling, substitutions, availability, training sessions, & meetings utilizing Microsoft Teams scheduling software
- Interview, hire, & train new staff members during semesterly hiring process
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all intramural staff including approximately 5 student program coordinators, 7 supervisors, and 18 officials (approximately 30 total)
- Provide direct supervision of undergraduate student intramural program coordinators and help them develop effective training and evaluation materials for the program
- Provide feedback for student officiating proficiency and give tangible examples for areas of improvement
- Build connections with student staff and initiate conversations relating to their goals and aspirations beyond college and how their position can help them achieve those goals
Special Event Responsibilities - Assist in planning, organizing, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating the Garden State Basketball Officials Clinic
- Promote NIRSA Championship Series Tournaments for student participants and staff
- Collaborate with various departments and student organizations for special events including Late Night at the Rec, 5K Runs, Gaming Tournaments, Homecoming Battleship, Cooper Medical School Challenge & Cooperative Cups, and any other special events throughout the academic year
- Maintain accurate budgeting records for each special event to ensure fiscal responsibility
- Create post-event summaries to include suggestions for future events
- Organize volunteers and establish clear expectations for their role at each event
- Initiate at least one new special event per semester to bring to the campus community
- Communicate with and secure necessary vendors, contracts, or purchase orders
Additional Responsibilities - Integrate training & discussion on topics of diversity, equity, & inclusion into all intramural staff training sessions
- Manage inventory and storage of intramural equipment in various storage spaces
- Coordinate reservations for indoor and outdoor recreation spaces using 25live scheduling software and departmental google calendar
- Communicate usage of space with other departments and services including main office, informal recreation, sport clubs, and aquatics
