The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor is responsible for developing, directing, and administering fitness and wellness programming and services for Mesa Community College’s community in support of Department and College strategic goals. The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor oversees daily operations of MCC’s Fitness Centers, establishes an inclusive environment for all members, and ensures programs and services are operating safely and efficiently. The Fitness and Wellness Supervisor provides leadership, oversight, and empowers professional and student staff to develop and foster high quality fitness/wellness programs. This position is also responsible for growing programmatic offerings in line with College, community, and industry needs. The position will support the development, implementation, and growth of a comprehensive student development and employment model for the Department in alignment with industry best practices.

30%: Manages the operations of MCC’s Fitness Centers; performs administrative duties related to planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating both the academic and operational activities of MCC’s Fitness Centers; coordinates and oversees the facility schedule, including daily activities and special events; assist with the vision, implementation, and growth of a comprehensive student development and employment model for the department that aligns with industry best practices.
30%: Provides day-to-day leadership of group fitness, personal training, and other fitness/wellness services and programming, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff, student employees/interns; serves as a Personal Trainer and/or teaches group exercise classes as needed; facilitates regularly scheduled meetings for staff and student employees/interns and provides regular and ongoing professional development.
20% Prepares and implements budgets and strategic, operational, purchasing, or maintenance plans, including annual budget projections, cost mitigation strategies, programming expenses, and developmental funding for advancing fitness and wellness programming; assists in the development, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and operation protocols to ensure safe and well-managed facilities; ensures compliance with departmental, MCC, and MCCCD policies and risk management protocols; maintains inventory of all fitness equipment; tracks usage, repair and preventative maintenance of fitness equipment and implements a system for replacement.
15% Develops, implements, and evaluates fitness and wellness programming in alignment with the needs of the campus and surrounding community; develops long-range strategic plans pertaining to fitness programing and scheduling; in collaboration with marketing staff, develops marketing campaigns to promote a healthy lifestyle and/or participation in MCC’s fitness and wellness programming, including creation of marketing strategies, use of social media, creation of webinars or virtual engagement opportunities, and other marketing needs; works collaboratively with various College and District departments/divisions to support campus-wide and/or district-wide initiatives.

A. Minimum of 1 year demonstrated experience supervising staff, including student employees and/or interns, preferably in a fitness facility or similar environment B. Experience managing an operational budget C. Demonstrated experience mitigating risk and increasing efficiency of operations of a facility, division, or department, preferably in a fitness facility or similar environment D. Minimum 1 year demonstrated experience in developing staff (e.g. onboarding, training, and/or mentoring), including student employees or interns E. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and/or evaluating programming related to personal training, group fitness, wellness education, healthy living, and/or mind/body development F. Demonstrated experience coordinating and/or directing programming related to personal training, group fitness, wellness education, healthy living, and/or mind/body development G. Minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience in fitness training and/or therapeutic rehabilitation (e.g. group fitness, small group training, personal training sessions, recreation, cardiac rehab, physical therapy) H. Nationally recognized certification (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness, personal training and/or specialized group fitness/small group training certifications
