SUNY Cortland will be accepting applications for Graduate Assistantships in Recreational Sports for 2021-2022 working in the award-winning 150,000 sq. ft. Student Life Center. We are seeking candidates with a passion for recreation and student staff development, who also enjoy programming and working in a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. In particular, characteristics that we value in applicants are enthusiasm, optimism, and a willingness to learn new skills relevant to the field of Campus Recreation. Experience in supervision and programming is preferred, and a commitment to quality customer service is a must. SUNY Cortland is located in Cortland, New York with an enrollment of approximately 6,500 undergraduate students, many of whom live on or around our residential campus.

Graduate Assistant positions that are currently available for Fall 2021 are as follows:

  • Intramural Sports
  • Facilities and Technology
  • Outdoor Pursuits
  • Sport Clubs

Candidates must be accepted into a SUNY Cortland graduate program in Recreation Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Higher Education, Sport Management, Health, Economics, or another related field. All applicants must apply and be accepted to a graduate program in order to be considered. No offer can be made unless the candidate has been officially admitted to a graduate program at the University.

Additional Salary Information: A stipend of $8,050 per year plus tuition waiver for up to 6 credit hours of graduate work per semester.
About SUNY Cortland Recreational Sports Department
The Recreational Sports Department at SUNY Cortland offers a comprehensive Campus Recreation Program to the entire College community. We offer 40 intramural sports and special event activities and 37 sport clubs with over 1,200 participants. We opened a new $55 million, 148,000 square ft. Student Life Center in February, 2015 which has a vast array of physical recreation components, as well as a variety of social spaces. The number one priority for the SLC is Informal/Open Recreation, and the most distinguishing feature is a one-fifth mile, suspended jogging track. The department has a staff of six full-time professionals, one full-time support staff, eight graduate assistants, and approximately 250 student employees.
