The Department of Campus Recreation at the University of Rhode Island is seeking applicants for two (2) graduate assistant positions for the following areas: Club Sports and Facility Operations. These positions will remain open until filled. Review of applicants will begin on April 1, 2021. Admission to URI’s Graduate School is required for these positions. Generally, applicants to the Graduate School must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Club Sports Graduate Assistant
Reporting to the Coordinator of Club Sports, the Club Sports Graduate Assistant will assist the coordinator with the overall administration of URI’s club sports program, which consists of 17 competitive club sport teams and roughly 550 student participants. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to mold this new position based on their skill set and the program’s overall needs.
Assist the Coordinator of Club Sports with the overall administration of URI’s Club Sports Program.
Serve as the primary campus advisor and point of contact for assigned club sports teams.
Under the supervision of the Coordinator, Facility Operations, this position offers the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of facility supervision. The Graduate Assistant, Facility Operations is responsible for supervision of RecWell student employees and assists in the day to day operation of two indoor recreation facilities; the Mackal-Tootell Complex and the Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center. The Mackal-Tootell Complex is a 275,000 square foot facility that operates as a shared space for academics, athletics, ROTC, and campus recreation. It features an indoor track, basketball courts, Cardio Center and Weight Room, classroom space, multipurpose gym, group exercise studio, and aquatic complex. The Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center is a 33,000 square foot facility with cardio and strength equipment, three group exercise studios, a classroom, and a wellness resource center.
Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of 130+ student employees in the positions of: RecWell Attendant and Building Supervisor.
Assist with the recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, evaluation, and overall management of all RecWell Program Assistants.
Coordinate and lead regular Building Supervisor meetings and coordinate monthly RecWell attendant trainings collaboratively with Program Assistants.
Attend and assist in leading weekly Program Assistant meetings.
Assist with the development and maintenance of the RecWell Brightspace page; keep resource documents up to date and collaborate with Program Assistants to develop and implement ongoing virtual training.
Assist with the daily operations of the Mackal-Tootell Complex and Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center; including service center management, locker management, equipment maintenance, inventory, and purchasing.
Assist in the development, revision, and enforcement of all policies and procedures in both the Mackal-Tootell Complex and Anna Fascitelli Fitness & Wellness Center.
Schedule staff for and assist with managing facility rentals and special events; which may require occasional evening or weekend hours.
Assist with fiscal accountability; including making recommendations for purchase and monitoring expenditures and payroll.
Assist in the promotion of facility memberships and development of special offerings for member appreciation and recruitment.
Utilize Connect2Concepts, SubItUp, Active Network, Brightspace, and any other necessary software technology to maintain and enhance operations.
Maintain weekly office hours and attend all required department staff meetings.
Serve on and contribute to the success of department working committees as assigned.
Assist with additional projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Admittance to a Graduate Degree program at the University of Rhode Island.
Experience in campus recreation programs, athletics or facility operations.
Proficient computer skills.
First Aid, CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain within 1 month of hire.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with students
Ability to work independently and work a part of a team that collaborates effectively with fellow colleagues.
Instructor level certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Experience with Class Software by Active Network, SubItUp, and/or Innosoft Fusion.
Experience leading trainings, workshops, or other developmental programs.
Prior involvement in NIRSA (conference/workshop attendance, membership, etc.).
