The University of Akron, Student Recreation and Wellness Services seeks applicants for the position of Manager, Intramural Sports. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the Student Recreation and Wellness Services department, the Manager of Intramural Sports manages, schedules, and coordinates all aspects of the Intramural Sports program. They provide guidance, student development, supervision and support to all Intramural staff, teams, and participants. The Intramural Manager is fiscally responsible for all intramural budgets and reports. This position works with Student Life, Athletics, and Student Conduct and assists with space utilization both inside and outside of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. This individual will assist with equipment purchasing and inventory for sports related equipment in the recreation department.
Responsible for all aspects of the Intramural Sports program; recruiting, hiring, training and assessing all Intramural Sports staff, referees, scorekeepers, umpires, etc.; hiring and training all student assistants and clerical staff for the day-to-day operations of the program; filling all equipment requests for Intramurals and maintaining the purchasing, pricing, maintenance and repairing of all intramural related equipment; assigning and monitoring hours for student assistant staff to provide seamless coverage for areas within the program and meet all budget requirements; assisting with the review and enforcement of Risk Management related policies and procedures; coordinating with the Assistant and Associate Directors for the scheduling of the facility for programs and events; assisting with developing, reviewing, and implementing policies / procedures related to programs and staff; and enforcing policies and procedures to guests and staff.
Also includes managing Intramural software program along with assessing and reporting on all aspects and functions of position while supporting standards and learning outcomes; reviewing and updating Intramural marketing and keeping program information current on the department website; developing marketing content and promotional outreach for the program; managing all aspects of recreational field maintenance as needed; working with other internal and external departments within the University to develop programs and foster relationships along with special projects and / or committees to serve on as assigned by department; maintaining weekly and monthly activity calendar; ensuring adequate staffing for events, schedules set-up, technical and security, etc.; and maintaining an annual goals and action plan.

Required Qualifications Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree; minimum of 2 years experience in designing and supervising campus recreation intramural sports and campus programs; minimum of two years experience training, evaluating and supervising intramural student staff; the ability to work a non-traditional work week (before 8am and after 6pm plus weekend hours); American Red Cross CPR / First Aid / AED certification; general knowledge of sports, rules and regulations and the ability to multitask and delegate responsibilities; and computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Sports Administration, Recreation or related field; American Red Cross CPR / First Aid Instructor certification; IMLeagues Software experience; CSI (Spectrum Management System) or similar facility / membership management software experience; Connect 2 and When to Work software experience; officiating certifications; and proven leadership development.

Additional Salary Information: The salary range for this position starts at $31,000.00 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. We offer a competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package. This is a 10 month position with full 12 month benefits. Potential to grow into a 12 month position with summer revenue program development.
