Responsible for RSS Programs including Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Fitness, Instructional Programs, Aquatics Programs, Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation, and Special Events. Responsible for development of specific goals, objectives, policies and content to assure organized, effective, and comprehensive programming. RSS programming serves over 6000 individuals through over 80,000 participations.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Direct responsibility for RSS Programs (Intramural -Sports, Sport Clubs, Instructional Programs, Fitness, Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation, Youth and Family, and Aquatic programming). Responsible for development of specific goals, objectives, policies and content to assure organized, effective, and comprehensive RSS programming. Program participants/different users annually serves over 6,000 individuals through over 80,000 participations.
Direct responsibility for hiring, training, developing, supervising, and evaluating RSS programming staff: Competitive Sports Coordinator, Fitness Coordinator, Aquatics Coordinator and Assistant Director of Marketing.
Coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive staff development program for RSS full-time, part-time, and student staff.
Direct responsibility for developing and implementing comprehensive staff development program for Instructional Programs staff and instructors.
Direct responsibility for planning and coordinating RSS programs, presenting and managing a budget of $465.000.00, including salaries and wages, equipment, and supplies.
Generation of programs annual revenue of over $100,000.00.
Coordinate the purchase of supplies and equipment and inventory of supplies and equipment for RSS programs. Direct responsibility for the purchase of supplies and equipment and inventory of supplies and equipment for Instructional Programs.
Direct responsibility for developing and administering multi-dimensional, revenue generating programs, camps, activities, social events, and instructional programs for people of all ages, including summer activities, weekend activities throughout the academic year and activities during university/holiday breaks.
Direct responsibility for developing and implementing revenue generating programs for faculty, staff, and emeritus of SIUC.
Coordinate marketing and promotional strategies for RSS programs. Direct responsibility for development of marketing and promotional strategies for all program activities, Instructional Programs and special events, and assist the Marketing Department in implementation.
Direct responsibility for hiring, training, developing, and evaluating Programming staff and instructors. Responsible for overseeing and managing personnel and other contacts related to Instructional Programs.
Coordinate risk management policies for RSS programs and assist in developing and implementing risk management policies for Recreational Sports and Services. Direct responsibility for developing and implementing risk management policies for Instructional Programs to insure safe practices.
Coordinate the development, implementation and analyzing of assessments for RSS programs. Direct responsibility for development, implementation, and analyzing assessments for Instructional Programs.
Serve as acting director of Recreational Sports and Services as requested by the Director in his absence.
Represents on campus committees, constituency groups, work groups, and with the community as needed.
Direct responsibility for handling on -site inquiries and assisting users with problems or concerns regarding programs, patrons or staffing. Responsibility for staff discipline, and patron disciplinary actions working with Department of Public Safety, necessary
RSS sustainability and recycling coordinator. Direct responsibility for development of master sustainability plan, implementation, and education of RSS employees
Other duties as assigned.
A) Bachelor's degree in recreation, health, physical education or related field
8 years of experience in recreational programming including supervision of full time staff.
B) Master's degree in recreation, health, physical education or related field.
5 years experience in recreational programming including supervision of full time staff.
2. American Red Cross, CPR, First Aid and AED certification required
