DESCRIPTION: The graduate assistant in Marketing/PR will assist the Assistant Director of Marketing with the marketing and promotion of all the various programs, services and facilities offered to the patrons of Southern Miss Campus Recreation. Responsibilities include:
Help plan and implement special events within Campus Recreation (public speaking skills are necessary).
Maintain PR project tracking system (Excel).
Maintain Payne Center bulletin boards and digital signage.
Provide project management and adherence to deadlines for marketing produced promotional materials.
Create content and post to department primary social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and assist with tracking post analytics.
Assist in the maintenance of the department’s Web site (Omni CMS).
Assist the Assistant Director of Marketing with hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and disciplinary matters of the PR student staff.
Monitor the comment card and online comment system.
Assist the Assistant Director of Marketing with research and data collection.
Assist with the development of PowerPoint and CANVAS presentations.
Write press releases and feature stories.
Take photography and video of programs and special events to supplement media library for promotional use.
Assist with division and department specials events.
Adhere to daily office hours.
Serve as professional staff (rotating nights and weekends) on duty for overall management and supervision of all staff, programs, and recreational sports facilities to include opening and closing facility and handling customer-related situations and emergencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in graphic communications, journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field; acceptance into the graduate program of the academic department of choice; good communication and public relations skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with university students, faculty and staff (Computer skills, in addition to the required ones mentioned above, are a plus, Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark.) Additional desired qualifications include NIRSA or other professional recreational related organizations involvement as a student. Certifications recommended are CPR, AED and First Aid.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT: First year August 2021 - August 2022. We ask for a two-year commitment; Renewal for second year is contingent upon satisfactory performance in the classroom and within Campus Recreation.

Additional Salary Information: COMPENSATION: A $10,300 12-month stipend, plus $500 health insurance stipend and full-tuition waiver will be awarded (in-state and out of state).
