The Assistant Director of Health & Wellness Programs will report to and work collaboratively with the Senior Assistant Director – Wellness Programs, to develop, oversee, and administer educational, comprehensive, and progressive health and wellness programs and initiatives. The position will work to meet the demands of the university community, while also promoting RecWell’s mission and values. Primary duties will also include the design, implementation, coordination, training, and general supervision of the department’s wellness programs. This position will provide leadership in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating part-time student staff. Participate in the development and implementation of wellness programming policies and procedures while collaborating with the integrated communications team to market programs. Conduct regular assessment to measure effectiveness, and implement new initiatives based on industry trends. Participate in budget allocation and program outreach efforts. Develop and cultivate relationships with campus and non-campus constituents. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Administration. Oversee and manage programs and initiatives on topics such as mental health, time management, stress management, healthy sleep, sexual health, and drug use. This includes scheduling programs, securing appropriate staff, collaborating with fellow division staff where appropriate, and acquiring and maintaining all necessary certifications for teaching and instruction. Provide oversight to the wellness coaching program.
Program Outreach. Serve as the primary wellness staff member responsible for coordinating health and wellness outreach and presentations to various campus groups. This includes serving as a presenter, while also recruiting and assisting other presenters as appropriate. Priorities for outreach include international students and other groups. Work collaboratively with division and internal communications staff to conduct media and awareness campaigns and market programs on various health and wellness topics.
Personnel Management. Supervise, train, and evaluate wellness professional intern and student staff. This includes recruiting and hiring, determining responsibilities and duties, providing professional and personal development opportunities, and working collaboratively with academic departments to ensure internship opportunities fulfill academic requirements.
Assessment. Develop and implement regular assessments of programs to measure learning outcomes, development opportunities, customer satisfaction, and participation statistics.
Other Duties. Collaborate and assist with other divisional and departmental planning, policy development, implementation, evaluation, and special events, as assigned by RecWell leadership. Serve on assigned departmental and University committees. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in health education/promotion, public health, wellness management or related field required, however master’s degree preferred. Minimum of two years of experience promoting health and wellness messages and programming to the college-aged population. Can consider professional internship and/or graduate assistantship experience. Certified wellness coach or ability to earn certification within one year of hire.
Ability to independently manage all aspects of a comprehensive health and wellness program. Must display ability to establish long and short term goals consistent with the mission of the university and the division. Ability to design and manage programs to meet the needs of a large, multi-dimensional department. Must show ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus with a variety of constituents. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement employee training sessions and supervise a large student workforce. Experience educating clients on areas such as healthy sleep, stress management, alcohol and drug use, sexual health, disease prevention, etc. Successful candidate will be self-motivated, energetic, service-minded and adept at solving problems. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents. Must possess strong communication (written/oral) as well as interpersonal skills. Proficient with computer software (word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, etc.).
