NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position Coordinator, Facility Operations. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to create world-class recreation programs, services and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom.
The candidate will provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operation of NC State Wellness and Recreation facilities with an emphasis on providing a safe, well maintained and proficiently staffed environment. Facilities include the 430,000-square-foot Wellness and Recreation Center + Carmichael Gym and multiple outdoor fields. Facilities are used by Wellness and Recreation, Health and Exercise Studies (HES) academic department, Intercollegiate Athletics, Dining Services and numerous campus partners and external constituents.
Specific responsibilities include:
Supervise approximately 100 facility student staff that includes: program assistants, facility supervisors, and facility assistants with a focus on student development and learning. Staff is responsible for operational procedures, emergency actions plans, maintaining a safe environment/risk management and providing quality customer service to all users. Facilities operate approximately 120 hours per week, seven day per week and have 4,000 – 9,000 visitors daily.
Provide instruction and development opportunities for staff through training, coaching, and performance evaluations that incorporate student learning outcomes. Specific outcomes include critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, quality customer service, conflict resolution, initiative, communication, innovation, and other transferable skills related to the department work integrated learning program.
Coordinate student staff in-service trainings specific to emergency, accident and incident protocols. Make changes to emergency action plan as needed. Track and maintain relevant certifications for respective staff.
Develop and execute on-going customer service training program to ensure goals, objectives and outcomes are met. Ensure high level of integrity, teamwork, communication and initiative of all staff.
Responsible for managing time cards and bi-weekly payroll for respective staff.
Identify strategies for facility operations to be more efficient and effective through technology and other processes and systems.
Assist with the development and execution of assessment programs for facility operations. Participate in overall department assessment and goal planning.
Ensure all department recreation facilities operate within required risk management procedures and oversee the implementation of standardized safety practices. Oversee compliance with NC State University and applicable national standards and regulations.
Communicate expectations, policies, and guidelines of appropriate use of facilities. Recommend improvements to policies and guidelines as needed.
Resolve conflicts that occur in facilities. Specific examples include user non-compliance of facility and department policies and guidelines, illegal access of facilities, inappropriate behavior, etc.
Assist as needed in all required departmental functions.
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING/EDUCATION
Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, student affairs, higher education administration or other related field. If in progress, must be completed within 30 days of hire.
Successful professional, internship or graduate assistantship experience in facility management.
One year of successful professional experience in collegiate recreation facility management.
REQUIRED LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION
Current American Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid certification or equivalent.
