UTEP is seeking an individual to fill the roll of Associate Director, Recreational Sports. This individual will Implements, supervises, evaluates and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of projects within area of the Recreational Sports Department. The Associate Director plays an integral role in the academic and professional development of staff and students’ assets through a variety of high- impact experiences and the promotion and assessment of activities and programs by establishing learning outcomes. In order to be successful, the Associate Director will need to work collaboratively with the Division of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, UTEP Athletics and many departments throughout the University.

Five (5) years of post bachelor’s professional work experience in recreational field with proven ability to plan strategically, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, manage facilities, develop and fiscally manage budgets and resources. Demonstrated leadership and experience supervising and training full-time, professional and part time staff. Ability to teach and critique fitness classes, and assist staff with obtaining their certifications as well prepare staff in their re-certification stage. Must be a Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) - Life Guard Trainer (LGIT), and a CPR/ First Aid/ AED Instructor through the American Red Cross or pass courses 90 days into accepting the position. Some Travel Required.
Master’s Degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Health Education, Sports Management, Physical Education, Student Personnel, Business, Well-Being, or related field.
Seven (7) years of full-time professional experience in Recreation Management, higher education administrations, physical education, student affairs or related field; vast experience supervising and training student employees.
Demonstrated professional involvement in NIRSA (National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association) or other professional organization.
Significant experience in the creation, development and evaluation of complete recreational sports and well-being programs. Proven success in revenue generation, innovation, and team building.
