JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Wellness, the Fitness & Student Development Coordinator maintains and operates all programs related to fitness areas & student development. The Fitness & Student Development Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of staff, fiscal operations, program development, marketing/public relations, participant retention, and customer service related to the fitness area/student development of the Wellness and Recreation department.
Under the direction of the Director of Wellness, make hiring recommendations of fitness area staff and the overall wellness staff.
Train, supervise and evaluate fitness area staff through defined performance standards and objectives for fitness staff, health lifestyle coaches/personal trainers, and group fitness instructors.
Implement a student group fitness training program.
Conduct regular staff meetings and trainings.
Set working schedule for all fitness employees.
Perform bimonthly payroll duties.
Instruct accredited Personal Training Courses and provide continual support to staff to ensure continual development and quality control.
Provide administrative support through reports as requested (weekly usage reports) and short-term and long-term equipment needs proposals as necessary.
Abide by local and state regulations and develop policies and procedures related to the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly evaluation of all equipment and facilities.
Assist and maintain collaboration with co-workers, organizations and agencies in the community that help to reach the objectives of the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center.
Work with departmental staff to provide quality programs for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Schedule structured activities on a monthly basis.
Assist Assistant Director of Wellness- Facilities/IM with the coordination of group fitness room usage.
Assist Wellness professional staff in the development of creative marketing pieces and leads department in marketing new programs including social media, weekly emails and printed marketing materials.
Assist with all campus events including Orientation, Day on Campus, Scholar’s weekend, Family weekends, etc.
Work with practicum students to provide experience in fitness programs.
Oversee the coordination of health and fitness programs offered at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center.
Coordinate and conducts daily fitness assessments.
Develop new and creative wellness programs.
Train fitness staff through a systematic professional program developed for each area.
Conduct fitness assessments and exercise program design and supervision for special population and higher risk clients.
Make follow-up calls to students, staff, and faculty when appropriate.
Implement a computerized fitness/nutrition assessment programs.
Implement a formalized personal training program.
Coordinate Wellness Programs including but not limited to FSC blood drives, Stress Free zones, wellness retreats, etc.
Complete monthly usage reports (fitness & wellness program participation).
Responsible for all student development efforts not limited to our health wellness curriculum programs, student retention, professional development and student special events.
Assume responsibility for weekend coverage of the facility on a determined rotation (i.e. every fifth week) and one evening a week including CPO/pool checks.
Contribute to the overall success of the Wellness Center by performing all other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Wellness.
Assist in the coordination of special events including, but not limited to, NIRSA Day activities, Annual Rec Fest, and outdoor recreation trips.
Aid in student, faculty, and staff retention and recruitment.
Conduct tours of the facility when needed.
Respond to the needs, complaints, and suggestions of students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Provide support for the Health and Wellness Curriculum.
Assist in developing and managing the approved income and expense budgets of the fitness program, and shares accountability for the Wellness Center budget with the Director of Wellness.
Attend required meetings including, but not limited to, weekly professional staff meetings, weekly staff meetings with Director of Wellness, scheduled FSC all-staff meetings, scheduled Worksite Wellness meetings and Convocations.
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation, or a closely related field. (Master’s degree and certification from an NCCA accredited organization (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, NASM) preferred.
At least 2 years of experience in fitness programming, group exercise programming, human relations, and fiscal management.
Must be able to demonstrate experience in working with students as well as the general public.
Must be able to demonstrate skills in fitness programs; demonstrate coordination of special events; demonstrate supervisory skills; demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrate ability to create, develop, and evaluate new programs; demonstrate ability to market programs and manage budgets; and demonstrate working knowledge of ongoing health and wellness programs.
