Reporting to the Associate Director of Recreation Facilities and Operations, the Assistant Director of RecreationFacilities and Operations helps maintain safe, efficient, and customer friendly facilities. This position is responsible for hiring and training a large temporary workforce that supports guest relations, ensuring appropriate services are available, utilized, and delivered to provide the highest quality of service and guest retention for students, faculty, staff, and community members. This position represents Northwestern Recreation in promoting programs and services while maintaining a professional environment and consistent enforcement of department policies.
Please note: This position is expected to work weekday evening hours during the school year to provide necessary building oversite for evening programming. Additional early morning, weekend, and holiday hours may be required, as needed.
Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
Recruit, train, and manage a large temporary workforce. Responsible for scheduling temporary staff to support two Recreation facilities. Create, evaluate, and implement training, in-services, and development opportunities for student supervisors and front-line staff.
In charge of managing upgrades and support of the scheduling software for the Recreation Department.
Review status of regularly provided recreational programs and services; note issues and trends, resolve conflicts or problems through regular client contact and staff meetings.
Help maintain/repair fitness and weight training equipment.
Conduct regular facility-wide walkthroughs to assure the policies and procedures are being enforced and that a safe environment for recreation prevails. Takes action to correct safety and liability hazards.
Manage and maintain the pro shop at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion which includes all aspects of towel service, resale items, and equipment for checkout.
Serve as additional Fusion administrator assisting with database problem solving, upgrades, and training of staff.
Review shift reports from Building Supervisors and act to resolve problems or patron requests.
Lead building tours. Promote memberships and programs to prospective students and members.
Assist with scheduling recreational facilities as it pertains to events and facility staffing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's in Recreation, Physical Education or a related field or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Minimum 3 years’ related experience, preferably at the collegiate level
