This position manages approximately 50 student employees that supervise all fitness spaces and equipment spanning 33,000 square feet at the main Recreation Center and another 10,000 square feet at the Williams Village satellite Recreation Center. The position is responsible for an assigned budget to include student employment and operational expenses, and works closely with maintenance staff to ensure fitness equipment receives preventative maintenance and remains in good working order.

Manage the hiring, on-boarding, training, scheduling, supervision, payroll, and evaluations for 50 part-time student employees for the main Rec and Williams Village satellite Recreation Centers.
Provide indirect supervision of student staff working within the Facility Operations team.
Track student staff attendance for required University and Rec Center meetings and trainings (CPR, Discrimination and Harassment, Customer Service, Risk Management Diversity Training, New Employee Orientation, as well as area-specific training).
Create daily workflow operations for student staff (headcount collection, equipment inspections, cleaning schedule, and monitoring spaces for policy and procedure enforcement) using Connect2 software.
Equipment and Facility Operations
Oversee the daily operations of 33,000 square feet of strength, cardio, and stretching equipment located in main and Williams Village satellite Rec Centers.
Assist the Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Risk Management with managing facility operations for the main Rec Center (6 multi-purpose courts, 4 racquetball, 1 squash court, 3 outdoor tennis courts, 5 fitness studios, 6 meeting rooms, 1 indoor turf field, and 1 indoor track).
Work closely with maintenance staff to ensure fitness equipment receives preventative maintenance and remains in good working order.
Ensure 250 pieces of strength, cardio and stretching equipment (valued up to 2 million dollars) along with over 200+ fitness accessories (dumbbells, Olympic bars, foam rollers, medicine balls, etc.) are cleaned, inspected, inventoried, and in good working order.
Maintain records of equipment for inspections, disinfecting, and inventory.
Inspect all fitness spaces and equipment to ensure operations are being executed by staff and continual improvements are implemented.
Respond to patron comments and requests.
Meet with patrons on rule violations and disciplinary issues.
Make certain Connect 2 software used to collect daily headcount data, accident/incident reports, shift reports, task management, standard operating procedures, and risk manual protocols are consistently maintained.
Manage an operating budget of approximately $330,000 to ensure a zero balance at fiscal year-end.
Maintain, track and reconcile monthly operating expenses to include bi-weekly payroll.
Create quarterly budget projections and prepare annual budget.
Assist with monitoring and inspecting equipment and facilities to ensure safety and industry standards are maintained.
Support the development and annual updating of the comprehensive risk management plan to incorporate health and safety for the department.
Work closely with the Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Risk Management and Athletic Trainer to coordinate CPR/AED/First Aid classes for the department.
Coordinate with the Athletic Trainer to conduct ongoing safety and skill audits for the department.
Assist with developing and implementing risk management training for the department annually.
Student Staff Development Committee.
Attend department, division, and campus official functions.
Attend state, regional and national conferences for professional growth and development.
Attend department programs and use various equipment and facilities to ensure these services are meeting or exceeding standards set by the department.
Report any problems or recommendations to the appropriate manager for attention.
What You Should Know
Work hours are primarily Sunday-Thursday, 11 am-7 pm but are dependent upon the University calendar, special events, and coordinating professional staffing needs allowing for flexible scheduling and on-call for student personnel emergency situations.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study related to the work assignment.
Experience supervising student staff.
Experience managing fitness equipment.
Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid or ability to obtain certification within first 3 months of employment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
