Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Recreational Services to join our Kern Center team. The Assistant Director of Recreational Services will assist the Kern Center Director in the overall operation and management of the Kern Center/Viets Field/Athletic Field. This would include involvement in the following areas: membership, staffing, events, rentals, facility up-keep, programs, fitness, and day-to-day operations
Essential Job Functions
Hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating student staff in all areas of the Kern Center/Viets Field operation
Coordinating the training of student staff in areas of CPR, 1st Aid and AED usage.
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Control Desk (to include register operation) and the evening/weekend facility operation
Assisting Director and Ice Coordinator for both campus special events and outside rentals to include coordination and event coverage
Coordinating maintenance and upkeep issues related to both the cardiovascular and strength training equipment.
Overseeing outside contracts for equipment maintenance, fitness instructors, etc…
Administering and providing leadership in the development of fitness programming for all users of the Kern Center.
This will include MSOE students and employees as well as community members
Provide positive customer service to both the MSOE and community at large
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Assisting in budget preparation
Assisting in purchase of equipment and supplies
Assist with operation of ice arena (including staffing, operation and maintenance)
Assisting in membership sales, retention and documentation

Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sport management, sport sciences, kinesiology, physical education or related field.
Two or more years in a recreational setting such as fitness center, ice arena, college rec dept or community rec dept (can include graduate assistant position)
Demonstrated experience in managing personnel and interacting with professional staff
Working knowledge of PC hardware and MS Office software
Must be willing to work evening and weekends as required
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before others. Ability to effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
Ability to use numbers to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
Must be able to handle conflict and diffuse situations so they do not escalate.
Able to lift up to 75lbs
Able to travel between locations on campus (Kern Center, Viets Field & Athletic Field)
