Summary: The Intramural Sports Coordinator will assist in the overall administration and implementation of intramural sports and community programs. The Recreation & Wellness department provides structured programming options to foster health and wellbeing, learning, leadership, and inclusion.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Sport Management, Higher Education or related field.
One year of experience in intramural sports programming
Must be able to officiate at least one (1) sport, and have the willingness to learn other sports.
Experience preparing and leading educational presentations and trainings
Ability to work nights and weekends as training or events require.
Must have strong verbal & written communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as a member of a cohesive, energetic team
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
Master’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Higher Education or related field.
Active sports official at the high school level or above.
Experience with summer camp programs
Experience with Unified Sports
Current American Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor certification
Experience in personnel management and implementing a student development model.
Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
Recruit, hire, schedule, supervise and evaluate part-time student staff
Coordinate intramural sports trainings and ongoing development strategies for sports officials.
Responsible for onsite supervision during evening and weekend intramural sports events
Oversee the administration, promotion, registration and league scheduling for all intramural sports leagues on the Allendale campus and downtown Grand Rapids
Manage community programing, including leagues, tournaments and camps
Oversee Unified Sports Program
Assist with budget forecasting and management, including staff payroll tracking and revenue generation
Ensure proper enforcement of department policies and procedures and conduct regular evaluation of sport rules
Coordinate risk management efforts and equipment inventory
Cultivate an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment; address customer comments, concerns, behavior, and conduct issues as necessary.
Align program with NIRSA best practices through continued policy, procedure and sports specific rules development.
Promote NIRSA engagement to foster student development.
Maintain professional standards and philosophy of the Division of Student Affairs
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope, responsibility and requirements of the job.
