This position is responsible for coordinating and managing the day to day operations of the Recreation and Wellness facilities including the Campus Recreation Center, The Fit, and The Well Fitness Center. Operations include oversight of 100+ student employees tasked with managing customer service, risk management of exercise spaces, and managing Informal Recreation programs. The Informal Recreation Programs include open gym for basketball, volleyball, badminton, racquetball, martial arts, etc. This position also supports operations during departmental and hosted special events within the indoor recreation facilities. Detailed responsibilities are outlined below.
Coordinates the daily operation of the three Recreation and Wellness fitness centers on campus: Rec, Fit, and Well Fitness Center. This includes the day to day management of informal recreation programs, access management, facility maintenance, and risk management of exercise and recreation spaces. Assists in overall development of facility policies, procedures, budgets, and risk assessment.
Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, evaluates, and terminates over 100+ students with responsibilities including access management, risk management, equipment rentals, facility supervision, fitness and cardio floors supervision, policy enforcement, and student engagement. Schedules and conducts staff meetings on a regular basis. Conducts one-to-one meetings with students to offer personal development and advising opportunities.
Responsible for oversight of daily management of fitness and cardio floors at all facilities. This includes sanitization of equipment and spaces, risk management, and training of staff on fitness and cardio operation procedures, spotting techniques, equipment upkeep, and engaging participants to build relationships.
Supervises and works with Graduate Assistants (GA) to develop operational policies and procedures, manages the equipment checkout process, and oversees the student Facility Staff position. Enhances student employee experience, focusing on the personal and professional development of staff. Provides educational and professional development opportunities to the GA.
Manages preparation of facility spaces for recreation opportunities including basketball, volleyball, racquetball, group fitness, and special events.
Collaborates with other departments to develop and implement effective programs and events for students. In addition, develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other university departments, other state agencies, general public while recognizing the university's overall mission and goal. Performs other duties assigned.
Recreation and Wellness provides opportunities for USF students, faculty and staff to participate in a wide variety of recreational pursuits. Recreation and Wellness is a department within Student Affairs. The department has 26 full time employees and 400+ part time employees. The budget for Recreation and Wellness is just under $3 million and the Campus Recreation Center alone has over 550,000 visitors per year.
Minimum Qualifications This position requires a Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs, student personnel position, or related field; or a Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred level of education is a Master's Degree. Preferred experience is facility operations experience in a collegiate recreation setting or similar setting in hospitality or sport management in the form of a graduate assistantship for two (2) years or one (1) year fulltime experience.
