The Coordinator will provide leadership and supervision of the day to day operations of the Outdoor Program (ODP) including the Equipment Rental Center, Climbing Center and kayak pool sessions. This position is responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment and provides significant teaching and training of students. This position works closely with the Outdoor Program Senior Coordinator, reports to the Associate Director of Programming and collaborates with all other Campus Recreation (CREC) professional staff. This position also plays an integral role in Campus Rec’s strategic plan and student success while serving as an active member of the Portland State Community, serving on committees and attending events.
Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience OR o Master’s degree and one year of professional experience Professional experience can come from a graduate assistantship and must include the following: • Previous experience in outdoor education programming and rental center operations • Previous experience in training, supervising and leading a cohesive team • Demonstrated experience working in and creating an inclusive environment focused on excellent customer service and community building • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within established and ad hoc teams • A self-starter able to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and have exceptional attention to detail o Ability to work varied hours including evenings and weekends o Must successfully pass a criminal background check o Possess and maintain American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/FA/AED or obtain one within four weeks of start date o Wilderness First Responder certification or ability to obtain one within one year of hire
Additional Salary Information: The annual salary rate for this position will be between $51,264 – $55,500. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
