The Assistant Director – Fitness, Wellness, and Adventure Recreation is responsible for developing, implementing, and offering Fitness, Wellness, and Adventure Recreation programming for the University community.
Directly oversee and supervise student and CENTERS Part-Time staff including, GroupX Instructors, Personal Trainers, Massage Therapists, Adventure Recreation Leaders, and Program Specialists.
Recruit, train and evaluate student and CENTERS Part-Time staff.
Ensure staff compliance of required certifications.
Create an environment that inspires innovation and effective student development outcomes.
Oversee a comprehensive fitness and wellness program including GroupX classes, Personal Training, Wellness Programs/Initiatives, and special events.
Oversee a comprehensive adventure recreation program including hiking, camping, indoor rock climbing, etc.
Develop and implement new and diverse fitness, wellness, and adventure recreation programs and services based on current industry standards and future trends to meet the needs of the campus community.
Collaborate with other campus departments to develop and implement fitness and wellness related programs.
Assist in the development and coordination of marketing plan for fitness, wellness, and adventure recreation programs and services.
Serve as primary risk manager for fitness, wellness, and adventure recreation programs.
Serve as faculty/staff advisor to the student Adventure Club, ensuring their activities meet all adventure program standards and guidelines.
Serve as on-site supervisor for large scale and high profile programs/events.
Serve as liason to Campus Pantry & Career Closet in partnership with Career Development Center.
Other duties as required.
Compile quarterly and annual reports for programs, activities and events.
Assemble, track, and review student employee paperwork, payroll, and timecards on a weekly basis.
Manage budgets for fitness, wellness, and adventure recreation programming, staffing, and equipment.
Provide recommendations to Director for capital equipment repairs and replacement.
Site Specific Responsibilities:
Attend office, staff, and department meetings/events as scheduled.
Represent CENTERS and the University of New Haven at workshops and conferences as well as serve on committees when appropriate.
Assist other program areas and facility operations as needed.
Instruct weekly group exercise classes (approximately 2-3 classes/week) and personal training sessions as needed.
Serve on various campus committees as needed.

Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree strongly preferred or equivalent years of work experience.
At least two years’ experience working in collegiate recreation (graduate assistant experience can be accepted).
