Full-time Professional Administrative Staff Position. Responsible for assisting with the planning, organizing, and directing of the daily operations and personnel of the fitness program. The successful candidate will manage a comprehensive Fitness and Wellness program to include: staff development, group fitness, personal training, nutrition education, activity challenges, virtual wellness, and incentive programs for Sam Houston State University students. Supervised by the Associate Director, Programs and Assessment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Organizes, develops, and manages, with the support of staff and student personnel, the Fitness and Wellness program.
Interviews, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates student and support staff including a Graduate Assistant, Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers.
Formulates and recommends policy, procedural, and rule changes. Interprets policies within each program and facility.
Oversees equipment inventory for fitness and wellness.
Completes and submits all reports, evaluations, tracking, participant/staff records, travel authorities, employee manuals, and other project and position-related paperwork and presentations in a timely manner.
Manages budgets for fitness.
Determines program registration fees and monetary revenue, making necessary adjustments to balance budgets.
Purchases necessary equipment and manages depreciation for associated programs.
Collaborates in the development and implementation of the safety and risk management procedures for associated fitness and wellness events.
Ensures compliance with all department, university, and state policies for payroll processes and regulations.
Assists with marketing and advertising.
Delivers excellent customer service and collaborates with student groups, organizations, university departments, alumni, government officials, vendors, and others as necessary.
Performs additional duties as assigned including committee membership and department-wide program facilitation.

Two years full-time paid experience in a professional, supervisory capacity of a recreation oriented program. (two years as a Graduate Assistant is considered equivalent to one year of experience)
Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sport Management, Recreation, Business, Higher Education, Student Development or related field.
Group exercise or personal training certifications in ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM/CSCS, NSCA, Cooper, NDEITA/NETA, or other national level certification
Demonstrated success in developing and managing budgets.
Demonstrated experience in a University Campus Recreation program.
Demonstrated experience administering risk management practices for recreation programs.
Professional experience administering Fitness and Wellness programming.
Demonstrated success in personnel training and supervision of multiple part-time staff.
Demonstrated experience in hiring and training fitness staff
Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of recreational programs to a culturally diverse population.
Must possess well developed communicative and interpersonal skills essential to working with large and small groups.
Certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid.
