American University is seeking TWO motivated and creative recreation professionals to join our Recreational Sports & Fitness team.
Fitness Coordinator, Wellness & Special Events
This individual will manage and develop Special Events and Wellness Initiatives for our department, while taking a role in the operations of three fitness centers.
The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the development, management and supervision of the Recreational Sports & Fitness wellness programs. This position also manages our Team Challenge program. The Fitness Coordinator manages a team of student Wellness Ambassadors and Team Challenge facilitators. This position works with partners across campus to help coordinate all special events for Recreational Sports and Fitness, including our late-night programs, wellness education initiatives, and programs targeting underserved populations. The Fitness Coordinator also acts as evening Manager on Duty two evenings / week. This position reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness.
Member Services / Facility Coordinator
This position will assist with the supervision of the three Recreational Sports and Fitness facilities and coordinate and oversee front desk operations within these facilities. The Coordinator will hire, train and supervise the student member services staff. This position is responsible for all front desk operations including: check in software, equipment rental, and pro-shop. This position will assist with all money handling. The Member Services Coordinator also acts as evening Manager on Duty two evenings / week. The position reports the Assistant Director for Member Services and Promotions.
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation Administration, Sports Management or related field or the equivalent in education, training, and/or experience
At least 2 years of relevant work experience (including GA experience)
Strong computer skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills

The Sports C...enter has approximately 10,000 members, including primarily students, with smaller groups of faculty, staff, alumni and community members, with daily average usage of 1,400-1,600 people. We also manage Cassell Fitness Center and Congressional Fitness Center. Cassell is approximately 8,000 square feet of fitness and multiple purpose studio space. Congressional is 1,000 square feet and primarily used for personal and small group training.
