The Florida International University Wellness and Recreation Center is seeking a Fitness Graduate Assistant to begin in January, 2022.

**Please be aware: If hired, Fitness GA candidates will only be able to complete their graduate studies in the Master's of Kinesiology program (program spring semester application deadline is Oct. 1, 2021).
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Other essential and non-essential responsibilities and projects may be assigned.
Assist in managing a comprehensive Fitness and Wellness program that includes: Small group training, Group Fitness Classes, Instructional Programs, Personal Training, and Wellness Programming.
Work closely with the Assistant Director of Fitness and the Coordinator of Fitness on developing programs, special events, and initiatives for both campuses. Working 1-3 days scheduled on FIU north campus and travel as needed.
Assist Fitness Coordinator with oversight of fitness administrative staff
Assist in staff evaluations, as needed
Work with the AD of Fitness and Fitness Coordinator to provide and lead professional development opportunities for all PantherFit instructors and personal trainers.
Develop and implement continuing education and training programs for fitness and wellness staff.
Coordinate the inventory and maintenance of Wellness & Recreation Center fitness and wellness equipment and products as needed.
Assist with training and on-boarding of new fitness staff
Help develop and revise administrative policies and procedures within the areas of responsibility
Assess effectiveness and satisfaction of programs, services and facilities.
Assist in the preparation of regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, participation reports, and equipment inventory reports as needed.
Help build strong partnerships on campus and with sponsors.
Provide direction and oversight to fitness staff on both campuses in accordance with the mission and goals of the department, division, and university.
Complete comprehensive analytical and statistical reports regarding fitness and wellness patron participation.
Evening/weekend work responsibility as required.
Train clients, teach group fitness and/ or small group training classes as needed
Maintain consistent office hours schedule as assigned
Other duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, recreation, sports management or related field.
At least 2 years of demonstrated fitness and wellness experience in fitness and wellness programming and facility management, preferably in a university or scholastic setting.
Appropriate nationally recognized certifications to include group instruction and/or personal training certifications.
Demonstrated experience in implementing policies and procedures.
Demonstrated experience in maintaining and managing fitness spaces.
Leadership and supervisory abilities (prior experience preferred).
Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm.
Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions.
Ability to write concise, logical reports
Ability to work independently.
Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports.
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles.
