Assistant Director of Campus Recreation - Sports & Youth Programs

UNC Asheville is seeking an Assistant Director of Campus Recreation to develop, plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate a comprehensive competitive sport program and youth enrichment program.
The competitive sports program is comprised of the intramural sports, club sports, and esports programs. The incumbent will develop and expand current program offerings; develop and manage budgets; and implement, supervise, review and administer the intramural and club sport activities and operations. They will also recruit, hire, train and develop student officials, student coordinators, student supervisors and game operations student staff and create a progressive leadership training program. The incumbent will also design, develop, and implement a comprehensive training and leadership development program for sport club officers and coaches, to include training topics such as safety, travel, fundraising, insurance and waivers, use of university name and trademarks/logos, budgeting, officer development, hosting competitions, space allocation and reservations. In addition, the incumbent will outreach to student organizations and other campus departments to assess student interests, student learning outcomes, and increase participation.
This position is also responsible for youth enrichment programs. The incumbent will work in collaboration with other members of the department to develop and execute youth enrichment programs that are focused on academic knowledge acquisition and skill development, are progressive in nature, curriculum-driven, and age appropriate. The Assistant Director is directly responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive youth staff training program for all campus recreation staff working with youth programs, developing program curriculum, collaborating with faculty, coaches, and specialty instructors, and implementing and supervising the department’s youth program operations.
The incumbent should have officiating experience, outstanding organization, knowledge of college-aged student identity development theory and application and at least one year experience programming sport programs. The ideal candidate has excellent organization and communication skills and a working knowledge of several sports and league rules to help sport programs experience continued growth.
A Master’s degree in sport management, sport administration, higher education and administration, physical education, recreational management, or a closely related field. Bachelor’s degree with significant equivalent experience may also be considered. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
1-3 years of experience working in a campus recreation or equivalent program.
Experience developing student learning outcomes, leadership development, assessment, and applying student development theory.
Certifications in CPR/First Aid/AED and/or professional rescue a plus.
Strong computer software knowledge including Excel, EMS, and website updates.
