Under the supervision of the Director for Operations, this dynamic, self-motivated individual is responsible for the administration of intramurals and club sports programs, a vibrant open-rec program, facilitating special events in RecWell facilities and fields, and a youth summer camp program. This position is responsible for developing and implementing policy and procedures for these programs with focal points on NIRSA and American Camping Association best practices, general risk managements, and budgeting for programs and activities of this nature. The Assistant Director provides this program administration and leadership to two coordinators who in-turn supervise student staff teams supporting these program areas.
A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions.
The University of North Florida was first chartered in 1965. The campus was selected in 1969, construction began in 1971, and the University opened its doors to approximately 2,000 upper-level students in the fall of 1972. In 1973, UNF graduated its first class of 35 students. The University was quick to expand and was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1974. The school’s mascot, Ozzie the Osprey, was adopted in November 1979. In 1984, UNF began admitting freshmen. UNF entered intercollegiate sports in 1983 as a member of the NAIA, later moving to NCAA Division II. The North Florida Ospreys made the move to Division I in 2009, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Since then, UNF’s 19 athletic teams have excelled winning numerous conference championships and regularly competing in postseason play. In 2015, the men's basketball team received its first invitation to NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Recreation and Wellness is a department in Academic and Student Affairs with the mission to create an environment for the UNF community that inspires healthy lifestyle choices through valuable programs and services while supporting academic success. Also called RecWell, under the leadership of the Senior Director, RecWell includes these units Competitive Sports, Fitness, Wellness, Outdoor Programs and Aquatics over more than 345 acres of campus, including miles of nature trials.
