This is a full-time professional administrating staff position with the Department of Recreational Sports, a vital component of the Division of Student Affairs. This position is responsible for supervising and evaluating all aspects of the informal recreation program. Evening and weekend work required as position demands.
The Assistant Director for Informal Recreation reports directly to the Senior Assistant Director of Informal Recreation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the student staff of the Informal Rec program which includes, hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of 80+ student employees
Oversee recreation management software (FUSION)
Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities
Coordinates the monthly risk management reviews
Confers with staff on program questions and problems
Oversee facility maintenance and scheduling
Diligent in exploring all problem-solving opportunities
Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates Informal programs
Recommends program guidelines, procedures, polices, rules, and regulations to the Senior Assistant Director for Informal Recreation
Creates and implements new policies for our new recreation management software to include memberships, resale, access, reservations, and summer camps
Works on special projects to include facility enhancements, video surveillance with the help of Information Technology, and marketing through digital signage
Develops and maintains the program's sustainability plan
Oversees the campus soft drink provider including ordering, inventory, marketing and final evaluation.
Performs other related duties as assigned
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation Sports Administration, Student Personnel Services, or a related field.
Two Years of experience in related field
Master’s degree in Physical Education, Sport Management, Recreation, Business, Higher Education, Student Development or related field.
Demonstrated success in developing and managing budgets.
Demonstrated experience in a University Campus Recreation program.
Demonstrated experience administering risk management practices for recreation programs.
Demonstrated success in personnel training and supervision of multiple part-time staff.
Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of recreational programs to a culturally diverse population.
Must possess well developed communicative and interpersonal skills essential to working with large and small groups.
