The purpose of this position is to oversee and execute digital communication for Recreational Sports and manage all department marketing outreach efforts. The responsibilities are as follows:
Social Media Management
Build and manage the department’s social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and make recommendations for presence in additional channels, as trends evolve.
Explore new ways to engage current followers and create strategies to grow the department’s social media audience to reach new participants.
Work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer to submit requests for all social media asset creation - including graphic design, photo, and video.
Collaborate with all members of the communications team and internal clients to distribute content that educates our audience and increases participation in programs.
Evaluate social media analytics across platforms on a regular basis, presenting wins and growth opportunities to communication teammates.
Monitor all social media platforms, prioritizing social listening and ensuring timely coordination of responses to inquiries and engagement with user content.
Website Content Management
Serve as the primary content editor for the department’s comprehensive website. Manage and complete web content update requests from internal clients in a timely manner.
Optimize website presence through coordination of web page maintenance, timely updating of assets, consideration of user experience, and maximizing search engine optimization (SEO).
Collaborate with the Senior Assistant Director for Communications as necessary on large-scale web improvement projects.
Ideate, coordinate, and execute the department’s on-campus field marketing efforts with the support of a team of student employees.
Process and fulfill requests for the department’s presence at on-campus events (including but not limited to presentations and tabling).
Coordinate the department’s participation in the university’s new student orientation program.
Hire, train, supervise, evaluate and mentor a team of RecSports Ambassadors (student staff) who support on-campus RecSports outreach efforts including tabling, presentations, marketing activations, etc.
Use excellent interpersonal skills and abilities to build and maintain relationships with university and community entities.
4. Email Marketing Support
Work closely with the Senior Assistant Director for Communications, Senior Graphic Designer, and Coordinator to develop and implement email marketing strategies to engage the department’s audience, including current participants and members, as well as prospects. This includes copywriting, coordinating design needs, and editing.
Manage the department’s email marketing platform (Mailchimp) by maintaining audiences/email lists, scheduling campaigns, and providing campaign reports.
Explore new ways to grow the department’s email marketing audience.
General Communication Duties
Assist in the development of integrated marketing campaigns, working cross-functionally to ensure creative is socially-optimized and adheres to best practices.
Work with the existing communications team to research and pitch ideas for digital and marketing content as part of overall editorial efforts to support the mission and core values of Recreational Sports, ensuring consistency of tone, voice and brand adherence.
Contribute story ideas, conduct interviews when necessary, write content or coordinate content writing for the RecSports Medium blog.
Monitor changes in digital marketing to best serve the department, make necessary recommendations and execute plans accordingly.
Assist with managing editorial content calendars and building out projects in project management software (Basecamp).
Support teammates on communications projects as needed.
Primary work location is on the main University of Texas at Austin campus in Gregory Gym. Standard work hours are Monday - Friday, from 8am - 5pm. Occasional early morning, evening, weekend and holiday work required. Additional hours required during peak times. Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace required. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Position is exempt Administrative & Professional (A&P), and subject to annual renewal. Prior knowledge of the recreational sports industry.
Experience working in health, wellness, higher education, or recreational sports communications.
Experience working with students in a supervisory or mentoring capacity.
Knowledge of the UT campus and its student body.
Demonstrated ability to lead content strategy on digital platforms.
Experience with content management systems, email marketing platforms, web accessibility and SEO best practices.
Proficiency with Mailchimp, Basecamp, and Sprout Social and/or Expression Engine.
